Brother died at the age of 60, Sister died at the age of 64. Both directly related to complications from being morbidly obese.
Diabetes, amputations, cardiac and circulatory issues, blindness, kidney failure-dialysis, etc, etc.
So there I was, 58 years old, obese, diabetes, cholesterol, triglycerides and blood pressure all out of control.
After undergoing cardiac surgery, angioplasty with a stent placement to clear arterial blockage, my PCP sat me down, and said quite frankly that I am surely following in my siblings footsteps, and the dominoes have already started to fall.
He suggested bariatric surgery, as a last resort or I will not have long to live. PERIOD!
Long story short, had lap band surgery, and 12 months later reached my personal goal.
I took this very seriously, as for me it was life and death.
I told my Dr. that I wanted to be very aggressive with this, and I have.
People are always concerned about what they will, or will not be able to eat. It does not matter to me. I would go on bread and water if it meant success.
All co- morbidities have been reversed, no longer on any Rx meds other than a cardiac drug that I will have to take for life.
Feel 20 years younger, go to the gym every chance I get. Wear normal clothes again.
Lap band surgery not only changed my life, but it literally SAVED my life.
My only regret is that I did not do this years sooner, and that my Brother and Sister did not have this same opportunity as me.
