I'm 2 weeks post-op and down 20 lbs. I thought I'd try some mush foods. I'v been drinking more than enough fluids. So I had about 4 tlbs of mashed potatoes slowly...got the Hiccups, I thought "I'm not suppose-to drink with meals", finally they passed.
Then the next day I tried some cream-chicken soup, got the hiccups again this time I drank some water. The part thats wierd is the hiccups feel deep down my throat, I guess I'm alittle scared.
As you guess I'm not going to eat today. But I'm wondering how normal is this. Thought I'd ask this forum before calling the doc.

Hiccups seems to be a common problem in banded folks. It is the first sign that the pouch is filling up and to slow down or quit eating. The next phase is PBing, which you don't want to do. A lot of people who drink carbonated beverages also seem to have trouble with hiccups

Yeah, I get pretty strong hiccups as well, seemingly when I'm full.
I don't think it has caused any harm since so far things seem to be going well

Welcome to band land! I get the hiccups fairly frequently. I am quite restricted with 5 fills. It is the way my band talks back to me and lets me know I either need to slow down or stop eating. If I am in public or with a friend I actually say out loud "it's my band talking back to me." I find it humorous and I am always grateful when I get the hiccups because it is a reminder that the band is working!
Enjoy those hiccups!!
