Since I was banded on May 23 my blood sugar numbers are fantastic. I used to have to take 14 units of Hummalog before meals and 60 units of Lantus at night. Since being banded I seldom need the Hummalog and when I do it is only 3 units. Lantus is down to 10 units. What a dramatic improvement. Now I realize that I am taking in very few carbs and honestly I hope to stay this way.

How is everyone else's readings since banding?

My blood sugars are now pretty much under control. Before surgery my numbers ranged from 250 to 320. Now they range from 80 to 120 and this is only 18 lbs down so I am thinking it is mainly due to my diet which is great. Already took myself off of Prandin but hoping to get off Metformin and Byetta soon.

I started losing weight before I got my band. I got diagnosed with type II diabetes when I was 17. I was at my heaviest after I hurt my back in 2005, and my sugars used to be in the 2 or 300s and I was on glucophage. I've lost 50 pounds since then, and 25 pounds before the surgery, and I no longer take any meds, and my sugars are normal. my HgA1c was normal. My doctor says that I'm essentially no longer diabetic, but I still take my blood sugars and monitor my sugar and carb intake.

I was on 2 types of insulin BID 100 units for 15 years preOp. 10 months postOp I was off all injections! Taking metformin and glypazide. A1c fell to 5.9 and remained around 6.4 until last check up....it had bumped up to 7.4....ominous and of great concern...following up with internist next month. BMI preOp 46.5 now 35.5. Still "30# from goal".

I was a diabetic in Nov. for about 2 months, that is why i started to dit,by cutting out all carbs,i lost 20 lbs,and went back to the Dr. 2 months later and my numbers came back normal, that is what made me have the lap band,i was scared,i hated taking meds, and checking my blood 4 times a day.As of yesterday i have lost a total of 13 lbs in 2 weeks, and im so happy.Good Luck!! a grand total of 33lbs.
