Lap Band "Strugglers"

Group Created by brandyII

People who are having issues with weight gain after the band or are plateauing for too long of a period. Basically any type of struggle with the lap band that is not mechanical in nature. Could have depression/anxiety issues, med issues, preexisting medical conditions, anything that seems to be hindering your weight loss and has put you in a "funk" because of your struggle.

Possibly had higher expectations from the lap band itself and feel disappointed.

Also, this is to be a safe haven for people so that they are encouraged and given advice, if asked, in a non-condescending way. We're already upset with ourselves and the situation and don't need any further condemnation from others!

It's my pleasure. I heard that taking your B vitamins was good for stopping hair loss as well, so you should ask the clinic or look into that.

I'm self pay too (in Canada we are all self pay pretty much) but I'm luckyin that my fills are covered for life! I guess for as long as this clinic runs. But he's pretty popular so I think I may be okay for a while.

Good luck and let me know how you get on.

I too was banded this day. The last time I say my surgeon, he asked me about my hunger and while I had good restriction, he gave me a small fill to help with the hunger. It has worked.

I can understand your frustration but there is always hope! I'm sure your doctor can reposition your band and everything will be great again. Don't give up!

I am allergic to metals and asked my doctor about this problem as I am scheduled for lap band on 9-29-08. She said she had never heard of anyone being allergic to the band. I hope she is right. If you hear different please let me know.

Dont beat yourself up hon, I was overfilled a couple of months ago, the same senario as you, up all night just puking slime - niiiice!! It was my own fault really as I believe the phrase that I used when he was doing the fill was 'pack me tighter than Donald Duck's arse', well I wont be making that request again!

We all lose at different rates, but I would say that if you can get a hamburger down then you cant have restriction, lord knows I have tried many times and every time I just puke it back. They arent really a good idea anyway.......sighs....

I have 6 kids so I empathise with your struggle to grab something for yourself, one of my standby specials is to mix a tin of salmon with some very light mayo , then slather it on a rye crispbread, its yummy and it really fills you up, and it has all of the essential oil type thingies that my dietician keeps going on about!

I wouldnt stand for my fill doctor speaking to me like that, and I have found in the past that the phrase ' Excuse me, WHO do you think you are talking to?' works wonders. When all's said and done he works for you hon not the other way round!

Keep your chin up hon, you will get the right fill!

Thanks, I think so too. Will discuss it with my plastic surgeon next week and see what he says.

thanks to all who posted. Things really haven't gotten a lot better. I got pretty scared on Friday as I couldn't even get water down. I got better that night and then the same problem cropped up again yesterday. I am going to give a call and see about an unfill.

When I am frustrated with the band, I try applesauce. You can mix yogurt with protein powder and extract, or make a smoothie. I love the double chocolate jello SF pudding; the raspberry chocolate isn't bad. I save these foods for when I just had an adjustment. I use a glass custard dish for my ice cream dish; no one can never eat ice cream. The frozen Publix (I live in FL) black jack cherry yogurt is terrrific; you would never know it was good for you.
