Congradulations on your surgery date!! That's great news!! And thanks for the other info. I had my first appointment for what I thought was going to start my supervised diet, but I had the most horrible experience ever and to top it off, didn't even get a chance to see the doctor, just the rude nurse practitioner!! At any rate, I think I may do better with my OBGYN next month!!

Congratulations on this beginning of a happier, healthier life! The band is a tool that will help you accomplish the goals you have for weight loss. The forum is a great place to get advice, info about diet and recipes, and answers to any of your questions.

If you are experiencing something, there are probably several people on the forurms who have experienced the exact same thing, and they can be a big help to you.

Keep us posted on how everything is going!

Hey Fairy!! Your new picture on your signature is absolutely breathtaking!! You are so beautiful :)
I wish i had the relationship with Dr. Mailapur that you have with Dr. Freeman. Dr. Freeman seems so nice and understanding.
Dr. Mailapur is nice to me, but i just feel like he doesn't wan't to participate so much in helping me make this band successful. He will say, "i've done my part, now the ball is in your court, it's up to you.". I knew he wasn't a big supporter of the band going in, so i can't complain there, but i didn't know he was going to be hesitant and weird about fills. I feel like if i tell him i need another fill, he is going to think i'm crazy. Oh well. I'm just going to keep on doing what i'm supposed to. I'm stuck again. Not gaining, but stuck. I know i need to be exercising, but just been so busy lately with all this house stuff. We close Sept 30, so maybe things will get back to normal then. But i really think i need a little fill. But not like he did last time! Not 2cc at one time!!! I tried to tell him just a little, but he didn't listen to me. I just think that is too much at one time. I think it is better little by little. I couldn't even get grits or mashed potatoes down when he did that. Oh well.
    Talk to you later,
    Julie

If you have 4.5cc in your band, sounds like you probably have a 10cc band.. if so, it can take 7-8cc to get good restriction.
Hang in there, 17lb loss is still a great achievement, you're not gaining!
17/4= roughly 5lb a month.. not bad at all.

Hi Ladies, Welcome to Band Heaven. I was banded May 21st in Anniston, by Dr. Black. Really a good Dr. I have had two fills, and have lost 36 pounds at last count. I only weigh once a week now, because my weight varys on a daily basis. So, I weigh on Sundays and that is it. lol. I was on liquids for 2 wks, pureed for 2 wks then soft for 2 wks. Then on to reg diet. My nutiritionist and Dr both recommend eat protein first then your carbs. You are in what we call "Bandsters Hell" until u get your first fill. (Hungry all the time) But believe me, after you start getting the fills, you are great. Just have to fight the head hunger. I have a 14cc band and on my first fill I got 2.5cc. Four wks later got 2.cc. I go back to Dr on 3 Sep for next checkup. Dont know if I will get a fill then or not. I still have restriction from the last one. I am able to eat about 3-4 oz of hard protein, and 1/2to 1 cup veg and a small salad at a meal. Have cut out the carbonated drinks and most sugar. Just remember that this band is a tool and not a miracle and you all will do great. If you go to some of these other forums on this web site, you will get so much info, you'll feel like you get to know the people. Good luck to you all. And remember, if this ole 64 year old granny can do this thing, so can you.

Hi, I used Dr Chris Dyas in Mobile and he was great. He is very professional and straight to the point. I had my surgery in May and had my first fill the 9th of July. Welcome to Mobile and hope everything goes well with you.

Hi!! Congratulations on your weight loss!!! I wish i had some good advice for you, but unfortunately, i have the same questions as you. I was banded on Jun 2, and i don't get my first fill until august 19th. My surgeon doesn't fill anyone until 12 weeks post op. So, i have a lot of hunger, but i'm so afraid of overeating, that i don't eat much, but stay hungry. I keep a diet diary, and most days i get about 500-600 calories in. I don't know if this is too much or not enough. I still have trouble getting all my fluids in. I feel like i'm sipping all day, but still don't quite get to 64oz. Well, nice to meet you and maybe we will get some answers :) Talk to you soon

Hi, was banaded on 7/22/08, by Dr. Joseph Galloway in Mobile Al, The most wonderful surgeon I ever met. I had no complications from surgery, everything went well, went home the day after. Did my full liquids now onto soft foods, follow-up appt. was 7/31/08, had lost 15 lbs, Dr. Joe doesn't require a two week pre-op. So my surgery was on a Tues, my husband took me to New Orleans the week-end before surgery and we had all our fav foods, gumbo, muffellate, shrimp po' boys, jambalaya, it was wonderful. I can honestly say I don't even think of this as a diet, it just a new way of making food choices, for you better health. I don't go back for six weeks unless problems, but I feel great.

    Hi Rene,
I am not a patient of your Dr but I did want to wish you the best and to tell you to calm down. Everything will be alright. I didn't have to take a laxitive before my surgery I was just told nothing to eat or drink after midnight and my surgery went just fine. Take a deep breath and calm down and you'll be ok. Good luck to you girl.
