You will be okay as long as you stay in the BMI range that qualifies you for surgery. That, and maybe put a couple of rolls of quarters in your pocket! HA! Kidding, I swear!
Also, the whole idea is to get a weight loss method that you can keep for life, to keep the weight off, I'm sure that you've been on diets and lost weight before, then gained it back. So just because you can lose weight doesn't mean you can keep it off. Make sense? -
I have 2 appts this month that are weigh ins then one next month then I start preop -
Congrats iamtheskinny me!
I had my screening with the nurse at my surgeon's office. One step closer. It was so awesome. She's been banded for 5 years.
However (as you can see from my ticker), I haven't lost a pound. In fact, according to my surgeon's scales - I'm 12 pounds heavier than I was at my PCP visit on Aug 12. Ugh.
I meet with the nutritionist and surgeon on Sep. 8...in the meantime, I'm lighting a fire under this 6 month diet thing. High protein, lots of veg, lots of water and more movement. I also have to be better about tracking my food. I look at this time as prep for changing my behavior and working on my attitudes towrd food. So maybe this lack of scale movement was a good thing after all! -
NYCFun, Thanks, I was banded on 8/21 and I am doing great. I am currently packing to evacuate for Hurricane Gustav, just went through Hurricane Katriana 3 year ago. I am on mushy foods. It was well worth the 6 month wait. -
Hello to everyone.
This is my first post. I started here because I just made up my mind that I want to have the lap band. I haven't even gone to a seminar yet, but I have been researching different weight loss surgeries for months now.
I am worried now because I haven't been on a supervised weight loss program for 6 months, but from past experience, I can't do it.
I looked in to this about 4 years ago when I was 6 feet tall and 268 pounds and they told me I "wasn't fat enough". Also, the doctor was trying to force gastric bypass surgery on me, which I definitely did not want.
So here I am 4 years later, weighing 335 pounds and miserable. Once I go to my seminar, if they require me to start a six month diet program I will be very disappointed. I was hoping to have my surgery before the end of the year.
But, I'm joining this group for support just in case I do get the bad news. By knowing there are others in the same boat as me will help.
Any suggestions or stories that may give me some insight would be appreciated. And again, hello! -
hello your doctor suppose to document , when you go every month to do a weight count.how much you weigh every month you go in. whether you loose or gain.until the 6months are up. then sumit to insurance. -
I wouldn't worry about it too much. I am sure things will go fine. -
yes it's hard but it's worth it. Losing weight before surgery like this shows the insurance you really want the surgery and makes the surgery easier when it finally comes around. -
My insurance told me one year at first...it didn't sound right so I called them. Turns out it was a mistake and I only had to do 6 months. I am in month 4 now. -
I know what you mean. Horizon BC/BS of NJ are very strict also. Tomorrow is my surgery 7/29. I had a date in Jan. but did not have a documented supervised program in the last two years so I had to do the six month supervised program and was approved in less than a week after submitting my appeal. All the other requirements had allready been met.
Good luck on your journey. -
re: "Does anyone have any opinions as to why I am receiving such negativity."
Generally basic ignorance of the facts. Occasionally ego induced confusion about their own expertese in pretending THEIR opinions about YOUR life are meaningful. Sometimes genuine concern for your well being.
It's not THEIR choice. I found my own DW's initial opposition changed once she was informed about the details.
Seek answers to all your questions. Interview the prospective surgeons. Talk with those that actually HAVE the Band. Then make up your own mind.
cheers in your journey -
I don't have to do the liver shrinking diet until the last month before the surgery. |
