Red face Holy Moly- Nervous/2-week Diet/ Ahhhh!

:faint: I start my pre-op diet in the morning. I have been going through the whole gammet of emotions today. On one hand I am excited about starting the pre-op diet tomorrow cause it means I am starting the rest of my life. On the other I am so freaked out about the thought of how will I do it- thinking about all the foods I may not ever eat again or will be unable to eat. Like it freaks me out when you hear some people can never eat meat- it just won't go down. I so hope that isn't me. I hope I can still eat chicken atleast.
One minute I am scared to death about the surgery, the next minute I feel like I know it will be fine. One minute I am so excited about getting my life back and all that I have been missing out on. Then next minute I am scared to death about all the life changes. My emotions are going back and forth from hour to hour. Anyone else having so many different emotions about the whole thing?

I can eat anything I want as long as i chew it well. With the band i just do not eat nearly as much. I am not that hungry. Donna

carrot--i am right there with ya! i started my 10 day pre-op monday. it was hard until about noon. then i got really really sick. :sick i must have gotten a bug, but i am finally starting to feel better today. i havent vomitted any since yesterday afternoon. that made the first 2 days perty darn easy to stick to.

this morning i just feel like bawling my eyes out. i want to eat. i know i can do this, i just really didnt think it would play such mental hell with me.

hope everyone is doing great.

7 days until surgery!

You'll do fine on the pre-op diet. I've been doing mine since 9/17 and trust me, with every passing day, it does get easier and better. It is taking a lot less now to make me feel full. AND I've lost about 10 pounds, maybe more!

Red face pre-op diet craziness Day # 1

Oh my goodness- today was crazy! This pre-op diet is really affecting me more that I thought it would! I was having major head hunger! I know a lot of it was psychological, but I had moments of hunger too due to the major decrease in calories and types of food eating. I am finding the drinking water difficult. I know after a few days I will be drinking only water like a pro, but for this first day or so I am going to have to force myself. I sooooo had food on the brain. I kept thinking I was craving all of this different stuff.

I am glad some of you said it gets easier and that you are losing weight. I just have to keep in my mind that this is weight I am losing forever and I will never be this weight again. I need to keep my eye on the prize!

Donna- thanks for letting me know that you can still eat the same foods, just less of them. I am worried when you hear about people that can't eat certain foods at all due to texture. I hope I am not one of them!

want so bad- I am sorry you were sick. I guess you are right though, the not eating probably wasn't as bad since you were too sick to even want to eat.

Barb- I was relieved to hear I was not the only one having this emotional roller coaster! It is so weird isn't it. The emotional connection with food really comes out during this pre-op time.

Debbie- yeah for you! Ten pounds gone forever!

I am starting my 10 day pre-surgery liquid diet on Oct. 5th. I will be banded on Oct. 15th. I am really nervous about the pre-op diet. It is nice to see that you are struggling but still able to stick to it. That gives me hope that I can do it too.

So what is the pre-op diet? I'm new and not approved by insurance yet. I've seen my Dr. for 3 months now and have 3 more visits left. Thanks Amy

AMY633- Most surgeons will require you to do a pre-op diet. It sounds like a lot of people have different ones due to different doctors. The main reason is to shrink your liver down. When they do the LAP-BAND®, the liver gets in the way. The diet will help it shrink down. I personally have to do a low calorie diet for two weeks. Mostly lean protein, vegetables, two sevings of fruit, and water. Others I have read have to do liquid diets, protein shakes, etc. Others had lost weight prior and were not required to do a diet besides nothing the day before surgery. So it all depends you your situation and the requirements your surgeon has. :)

Carrot...reading my mind?

Carrot,

I totally share all of your feelings...and I too can't keep my mind off of food....and find myself watching the food network more than ever. Damn Paula Deen!!! Curses to Emeril!!!

One thing I did tonight that made me feel great...my neighbor asked me to come sit on the deck with her. She does not know about me being banded, so she went into the house, and came out and handed me a beer and two slices of Dominos Pizza!

I declined both,,,,and came home to cook a chopped onion and a chopped carrot in some chicken broth. This is all of the veg I'm allowed in a day. I pretended it was a chinese won-ton soup, without the dumplings. I must ahve been starving...it tasted soooo good. I ate nothing else today but a Slim Fast shake (low carb) and a cup of cottage cheese. My liver should be the size of a penny on surgery date!

It sure is tough.

Sending sympathy, support, and prayers your way!:clap2:

I am hoping I can soon start my pre-op diet. It seems the only holdup is Meidcare. I have completed everything and still no date. I am about getting ready to give up on getting the surgery. Good luck to you!
