Must be a failure

I'm new to this forum. Hello everyone. I'm hoping to find others with the same problem I have. I had my LAP-BAND® surgery June 13, 2007, and to date I have only lost 30lbs. Is this normal or what? I have only had about 4 fills since my initial surgery. The last time I went in for one, the fill doctor told me that she would like to see a little more weight loss next time. So needless to say, it has been about 4 months since my last fill.

I was just wondering if there were others out there who have gone through the same thing. Is 30lbs. in a year normal, or should I have lost more?

Waiting to hear from you guys about this. I'm beginning to think I'm a failure.

"Failure" is a self-imposed term. Losing 30# in a time period where personally I would have gained weight, certainly can NOT be considered 'failure'.

"Slow loser" perhaps....but even THAT is a WINNER!!!

The purpose of the adjustable Band is to, well....ADJUST it. If you need a fill, take the next step in your recovery from Morbid Obesity.

We all have to find effective ways to change our behavior and move toward our goals.

Motivation is self-reinforcing. 'How we feel' affects what we do, not 'who we are'.

cheers on your journey

I have only lost 39 pounds over the year. You are not alone. My doctor told me that it might take 3 to 4 years to take all the weight off. Everyone is different. I do not exercise a lot so that is my biggest downfall. I feel the weight will come off in its on time depending on what i eat or how much exercise i get. Don't beat yourself up. Remember you are 30 pounds down not up.

Thank you Huntermom. I feel a lot better now to know that I'm not alone. I thought I was doing something wrong. It also has been a difficult year for me. Right after I had my surgery, we found out that my dad's bladder cancer came back. It got treated and cured. Then he went into the hospital in October of 07 for poor circulation in his legs. Had surgery, then his colon started dying. We had to take him off the respirator, and sent to Hospice. Where he died a week later. So needless to say it has been a rough year. Hospital food is not the healthiest either.

I had a friend who had the surgery and she lost a lot of weight almost immediately. I guess I had great expectations. As you and my sister said aleast you haven't gained weight. I do feel so much better than I did. Thanks so much for all the advice.

Thank you so much Jack for your advice also. I don't feel so alone now.
