HA I was wondering the same thing! :biggrin2: That's okay...I've been called worse things than a "FOOF"! LOL
I eat a lot more than the average bandster because of all my exercise. But the principle is the same...net calories. And always underestimate your calories burned from exercise. Many times, on my long ride days, I end up way in the negative on calories. It would take a whole lot less than 1100 calories to get me into starvation mode, though...and over an extended period of time, too. I "think" I would go into starvation mode if I maintained 600 or less calories per day for more than three weeks or so. That never happens any more though...not when just one of my protein bars is 400 calories! LOL
Bottom line is that no one can quote a number and have it ever be correct for anyone else. (And any doc or nut that says otherwise is lying!) Every person will respond differently due to current (excess) weight and activity level, how often you change up your workouts, how often you change up your diet, so many things. That is why I believe the best way to lose weight is to carb cycle. It will always keep your body guessing! It takes a little experimentation to find your optimal levels, though.

I am using the numbers on the machines at the gym to know how many I've burned and from the research I have done, they are pretty accurate. I am going to stick to around 1200 a day and then adjust if I need to after a few weeks. That seems to be working for a local friend of mine that works out more than I do. I'm going to have to check out this carb cycle deal, never heard of it, thanks!

Hey, sweet...if it aint broke, dont fix it! I was just trying to answer the question you posted, but it seems you figured it out already! Good deal!
Just remember to change things up a bit every 4 to 6 weeks or your body will acclimate.

| Miss "foof" LOL what is a carb cycle? After almost a year you would think that we would know all this! I was actually wondering how you all count bites? For example, we had a cook out yesterday at work, I had a half a hamburger( no bun) and then a bite of mac and cheese and a bite of spaghetti salad. How do you count bites? This is why I think counting calories is hard. what do you all do when this is the case? Now having said that, I was hungry yesterday when nothing would go down with out work so I caved in and had two brownies! They went down fine!! YUK!!!!Today is a new day!

Janine - when I was having reflux issues about the only things that didn't cause me horrid pain was ice cream and those 'fun size' candy bars like 3musketeers, snickers, etc... which is weird, since even WATER was very painful!

Just got back from the docs a bit ago. Pouch is healed, band corrected itself and they put 3.2 CC's back in.
AND...I lost two pounds to boot! So I am in good shape!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
CARB CYCLING - I should have specified. To say that carb cycling is great for losing weight is not technically accurate. It is for losing FAT. Here is a couple links that are quite lengthy, but detail it well (note the protein recommendations...it will freak some of you out...again): PART ONE: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW! CARBOHYDRATE CYCLING Bodybuilding.com - Twin Peak - Carbohydrate Cycling: What You Need To Know! PART TWO: CYCLE MANIPULATION Bodybuilding.com - Twin Peak - Carbohydrate Cycling Part Two: Cycle Manipulation!
Google "carb cycling" and you will find much info on this. Yes, it is almost ALWAYS put out there by one bodybuilding forum or another, but it is not just for body builders. Losing fat is what we all need. If I have to choose between my scale weight being low or my body fat percentage being low, I'll take body fat percentage every time. That is what determines true health. (Ever heard of the fat skinny person? It's a real thing!) This is also what will get you into smaller sizes without necessarily losing scale weight, because pound for pound, muscle takes up much less physical space than fat.
So at any rate, carb cycling is what will give you that toned appearance from your workouts. It will make you look healthier, feel healthier...BE healthier.
My body will only look 'toned' after I lose another 120 pounds and have major plastic surgery. Lol.
