Here's another delicacy I wanted to try but didn't get the chance to:
DALLAS -- There are fried Twinkies and even fried candy bars.

Now, vendor Abel Gonzales Jr. has come up with a new artery-clogging concoction for the State Fair of Texas. It's fried Coke.

Gonzales deep-fries Coca-Cola-flavored batter. He then drizzles Coke fountain syrup on it. The fried Coke is topped with whipped cream, cinnamon sugar and a cherry. Gonzales said the fried Coke came about just from thinking aloud.

Gonzales' diet-buster wins the creativity honor at the second-annual Big Tex Choice Awards Contest.

AGGGHHH! That was scary! (Krispy Kreme burger)I guess it's kinda like a McGriddle-the whole sweet/salty thing. Now fried macaroni and cheese balls.....I may have to try that. I LOVE me some mac 'n cheese!

Well of course. We have to make those sacrifices for health, and we know how bad caffeine is!!

Yup, I've been caffeine free (and I'm a night shift worker) since December and (almost completely) refined carb free since late January. It amazes me how I have very few cravings for it anymore. Except for a few of these deep-fried items, that is. And even then, I think I'd only want a bite.

re: "I thought DH and I were the only ones in the WORLD who didn't like Krispy Kreme's"

don't know about these, I've never had one....

I live rural enough the only way these ever showed up was when someone made a special run to the city....

a few enterprising souls actually would get a van-load at a time, spending at least 5 hours commuting...and there would ALWAYS be a line....

can't image how tasty cold sugar glazed grease would be appealing....

I am (or was) an ... ahem ... adventurous eater and I can't imagine trying a fried candy bar. The idea just grosses me out, and even though they're probably tasty in their way, I'm glad enough that the idea is so revolting to me I'm in no danger of becoming enamored.

The closest thing I've ever tried is the Snickers-ravioli dessert they sell at the Macaroni Grill. It's what it sounds like: Snickers wrapped in ravioli dough and deep fried, then served in chocolate sauce and powdered sugar. Gag me.

I was never a fan of Krispy Kremes either. NYC was so full of really good doughnut shops and bakeries that these seemed like just a pale, pale imitation.

...well it looks like some real competition emerging here...

another entry from my own compulsive history:

Decades ago (ok, like about 1967) there was a little place that offered a 'family' of burgers---different size patties and stuff with it....

At the time I had a crush on one of the waitresses there who facilitated a variety of food adventures in lieu of any social relationship....

I invented a 'baby burger split'....yes, all the various excesses of a banana split, without the banana....with those little meat patties under the fudge, caramel and whipped cream.....

I can feel my gut writhing as I type this.....

oh the abysmal ignorance of unfettered pheromonal driven excess.....

I LOVE that dessert - we were there last night and I almost ordered it, but stopped myself in time, or rather my band did. I was full from my nice grilled halibut. So the fried candy bars appeal to me a lot!

I have always LOVED Krispy Kreme doughnuts--in fact, that is the one thing that I crave more than anything and are so hard to give up. I haven't had one since the band. Can we eat one, or do they get stuck in the band?

Ditto, Dixiecharm. I would kill for a nice, warm, soft KK doughnut fresh out of the oven with the glaze ever so slightly oozing down the sides with a nice glass of cold milk. I will bet they they would just slide right down....might be worth the pain, after all....what do you think?
