Whey protein vs. Soy protein

Which powder tastes the best to you. I bought my first protein powder yesterday & I opted for the soy even though the whey protein powder was cheaper. Soy just sounded better than whey! LOL!! I value any opinion given here! Thanks!

Sounds yummy Penni! I'll have to try that! So far the soy protein powder is pretty good but I'm mixing it with Yougurt, frozen strawberries, a banana & a little splenda. It's pretty darn good that way!

I think the soy is maybe for those that are lactose intolerent? I believe they have about the same amount of protein in them right? I think the whey has lactose and the soy does not. ~Mandy

One of the things that you want to notice when buying protien powder is if the protien is isolate or concentrate. Isolate is a better form and the one you want to purchase - some are a mixture.

I am having trouble finding one that I like because I don't like the consistancy of most of them - I prefer to mix with water but I don't want chocolate water. Carb Solutions makes one that has the right consistancy but is a bit pricy. If anyone has had a powder that is kinda thick when mixed with water please let me know.

Thanks,

Eas

Lynn, EAS brands are thick with water. I really liked Myoplex low carb individual serving french vanilla that I had but if you don't use a blender it does get lumpy. They have 25 grams of protein and alot of vitamins and stuff too. I got it on sale I think for 20 servings for about $30. Celeste

A good flavorful brand of soy protein is made by Shaklee. It is very bio-available after digestion and tastes great. Another thing you might not know is that soy protein (at least Shaklees) tends to help women more as it has phyto-hormones in it that actually help a woman (and to a certain extent men) with there own hormone balance. These phyto-hormones are natural plant hormones that are similar to the bodies and can help women going thru the time of life change. For others it helps with cravings (and moodiness) during certain times of the month. For myself I use a mix of the soy and the whey, as I don't want to become lactose intolerant by the use of large amounts of whey taken regularly. In a study I read it stated that most americans are protein deficient and that the soy protein was the type that raised the cellular level of usable protein the most in a given time period.

I don't work for Shaklee and actually hate the MLM type of selling but some of there products are TOPS for what they are.

Lynn B - The powder I bought was from Wal-Mart. $8.00 for 14 servings. Brand - Advant Edge. Has Body for Life logo on the side & it is an Isolate. Thanks for the info! I don't know how it mixes with water though. I'll try it later today for you & let you know.

Tony Bia - I had heard that soy products were good for the change. My Aunt is going through it & everything she ingests has soy in it. LOL! She says it works. I have PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome). My hormones are way out of whack. I think I will stick with the soy! Thanks for the info!

I have taken to whey but mix it with soy milk. This makes for 30g of protien per 8oz drink. With some sugar free syrups this drink can be mighty delicious.
