I believe iron isn't supposed to be taken in combination with other things - either it interferes with the other vitamin's absorption, or vice-versa...
I don't recall for sure, but that's my initial "vague memory"...
Also, because getting too much iron is bad, I imagine the vitamin companies are just covering their bases and leaving it out, since a lot of women are on iron supplements already, they wouldn't want to take the vitamins with iron, too...

1st I bought lime flavor chewable from GNC and they were big and awful. 2nd I bought some Centrum liquid and couldn't bear the taste, even mixed in a smoothie. 3rd I finally settled on some Gummy Vites. These vitamins taste just like gummy bears, I can't tell the difference, plus my kids love them also. I get them from the SamsClub and the website is: www.gummybearvitamins.com |

On the iron issue, supplements should not be taken if you are not anemic. It is not excreted from the body very well, and can build up in the tissues and organs, and could become toxic. It does interfere with absorption of other minerals, including calcium. It's very hard on the digestion, so it's best to get your iron from iron rich food sources instead. If you're on a high protein diet that includes meat and seafood, you probably are getting a sufficient amount, especially if you are a man or post menopausal women.
Been to quite a few nutritional seminars!

The rule of thumb (different for different folks):
Pre-menopausal women - particularly those of child bearing age - need a multi with iron.
Post-menopausal women - no additional iron. Since you're not menstrating, you don't lose all those red blood cells every month.
You'll notice the Multi vitamins tageted to those 'of a certain age'. like Centrum Silver, don't have iron in them, whereas Pre-natal vitamins have TONS of iron in them.

Do any of them taste halfway decent or come "flavorless". I can't stand my Flintstones.

The Rugrats taste okay to me, but may not to you. I also have been taking the chewable Benefiber which I think tastes pretty darn good.

If you have a CVS pharmacy nearby, their brand of vitamins with iron are around $6 for 100. The bottle is small and says Daily Multiple USP plus Iron. They are the size of an M & M. My physician said that they were fine. I've had 2 fills and I'm at 1.75. They work fine for me.
Good Luck

Kroger makes an adult chewable multi that I've been using. They don't taste too bad, kinda like "Starburst" chews.
I took Alex' sugesstion a while back and am using the Viactiv chews for calcium - yes they are yummy, and a great deal at Costco.
I've never heard we shouldn't take multi's with iron, but my understanding is it's an absorption problem with us and iron. I've read we should use ferrous fumerate, and to take on an empty stomach.

There is also a great liquid Vitamin as well. Please click on SEARCH above and then key in Liquid Vitamin. It will bring up the post I started on Liquid Vitamins.
I take Source of Life Liquid Vitamins. They are great.

But... we don't have absorption problems? All our parts are intact. ???
