Study Suggests Food Tracking = Double Weightloss

This has been popping up on the news all morning, so I thought I would post a link to the topic (and tons of articles) from Google's news aggregator.

- Google News

Enjoy!

I have been keeping a food diary for almost 12 months now - and I beleive that it is one of the reasons for my success - I think it's a great learning tool - will I do it for the rest of my life no.. But if I start to gain - yes I will go back to tracking ..

My least favorite thing to do, but I know that I truly need to start again. I will journal my foods (again) starting today! Thanks for the post.

You're quite welcome. I was excited to find it. I have believed in the tracking process for a long time now, but only until about June 8 or so (banded May 15) did I really start paying attention. To be fair, that's when I discovered the online calculators (settling on TDP, love it!).

I am more diligent about what I eat as I see the numbers computed, I am more careful about dietary boundaries, and I am honest as hell. It has become such a part of my daily routine that, if I am not near a computer, I keep it in a notebook until I can log it online.

It's a way for me to see I am doing well even if I fear the scale won't move or I won't experience another NSV for a while. I feel proud when I am within the boundaries my doctor and I set, and I feel empowered by keeping track instead of burdened by counting and worrying and stressing over every bite.

I dont do it personally, but I'm not at all suprised that statistically it brings great results.

I eat a lot of things that I forget about, lol.

What's that old adage we learned in science class -- something about how the simply study of a behavior will instantly affect its outcome??

I KNOW that it works, because the minute I start to keep a record I start thinking things like, "If I unwrap that piece of candy then I will have to walk over there and write it down" and I put the candy away until later.

I have been keeping track from the day of my first appt. and I find it to help soooo much! I use fitday.com It keeps track of your commonly eaten foods and allows you to adjust the portions---ie .33 tablespoons of evoo. I love it, and know that I will absolutely have to maintain this habit. Write it down people!!!!
