Unhappy Still hungry

I have only been banded for 7 days. The first few days were okay, but now i feel like I am ALWAYS hungry. I have done shake, carnation breakfast drink w/ extra protein, yogurt, pudding etc. I have had a few moments when I got the cold sweat, then started to dry heave. Is this all normal???? I don't really know what else to eat to make me feel satisfied...any suggestions? They would be muchly appreciated!

7 days post op, there is nothing much to satisfy you. Protein drinks will help curb the hunger if it is true hunger, but if it is head hunger, I'm afraid it wont help much. When do you get to go to soft/mushy fooods? When do you start solids?
During the liquid phase for me I drank alot of water to help me keep full or feel as if I was full.
Hang in there, this is the toughest part but all worth it end the end :)

I can have the "mushy foods" but they told me to keep it at what I listed already. Maybe i just have to find a better protien drink! I beleive they are "true" hunger pains! They make my stomache hurt! About how long does this phase last? Until I start solids? That is about a month away. I will go grab the water and start drinking!!
Thanks

Sorry, but I have to agree with La madam. You are in a very trying phase of your journey, but it does get better. I put a tablespoon of peanut butter into my protein shake before blending. This seemed to help. I was only allowed to drink clear fluids with 1 protein shake a day for 2 weeks. By the end of week two I think I was having constant stomach grumbling and hunger pains... but I was very proud of myself for sticking to my doctors orders.

Stay strong and try to sip some fluids all day long.

Thats a good idea also, adding peanut butter to the drink... I guess this is why the "boards" are here! Thanks a bunch. I will stick with it and deal with it!

Wink

I had a few issues at first with 'head hunger' where I was convinced even though NOT hungry I "SHOULD BE" hungry and wanted to eat to 'keep from GETTING hungry' (what an old song THAT was)....someone pointed out to me that 'no matter what you THINK you think, none of us are going to starve to death'....

somehow that calmed me down a great deal...

and I too started adding a spoon of peanut butter to my shakes....immediate relief....maybe it was just a taste missing, or a particular consistancy, I don't know...

In fact it turned out I was NOT 'really HUNGRY' for the next several months, once my brain learned my throat wasn't really cut...

there are literally hundreds of taste/flavor/texture sensations I've discovered since Banding....and these seem to play a role in developing a sense of 'satiety' I've never had...

and the first thing I had to adapt to was the loss of that ever-so-large GULP of a huge wad of barely chewed food....

the SWALLOWING process is one area I never paid much attention to....and that is a key of a lot of my own hunger...and every day I didn't get ALL my water I was hungry....

don't know about yours, good luck and keep us posted....

Not too much you can do. Remember, it's temporary! It will end.

To pass the urge--pass the time. Take a shower. Take a walk. Take a picture. Take a Sunday drive. Scrapbook. Hug a friend. Write Christmas cards. Go Christmas shopping. Put together a puzzle. Take a nap. Read a book. Watch a movie. Do a load of laundry. Read the Bible. Do a Bible Study. Call a friend. Wash your car. Clean the house. Do a crossword puzzle. Knit. Sew. Quilt.

Food

Thanks for posting. I was beginning to think I'm the fussiest person in the world but I am surviving. I found the cheese soup packets - they are dried and include a little bottle of tabasco (which I don't use) to be great. The ones that I've tried were the 5 cheese with herb and beer cheese. To make them less rich, I have added some broth and/or potato leek soup (this makes it much more filling). The brand of potato leek soup I used was in the health food section - I think its called image or imagine or something like that.

I have also been adding my protein powder to soy yogurt but sometimes that just makes me hungrier.

Thursday I get to add mushies and pureed foods. I can't wait!!

Celeste
