Starches ok with your Dr.?

I'm a little confused by some of the recipies that people have posted in the mushies thread...My doc said absolutely no starches (like potatoes) but most recipies have things like beans or rice. Is my doc the only one that said no starches? I'm bummed if he did. What can you have or what could you have in the mushies stage and beyond?

My doc said to eat protein first, then veggies, and then starches (if I still had room). I can't say he outright forbid starches, but he encourages us not to go overboard because our weight loss will slow down.

I was told protein, then veg, then starches. I find that I don't feel like wasting room on starches these days!

My doc probably doesn't watch me eatin starches..
His rules were generic for RNY & Lap Band. It's the whole low-carb/no-carb thing.
Protein first, veggies 2nd, and you shouldn't have room for carbs.
No snacking.

I kind of made my own rules, not that you should, but I can't stick to Atkins for life. Been there, done that. And when I fall off the wagon, I fall hard.

I'm thinking for the mushies stage starches are ok - oatmeal, etc....it is after we start on solids that the carbs need to be lower. I couldn't stand to be on Atkins for very long. Carbs in moderation, I say!

My doc says starches are okay BUT...... I have to eat brown rice instead of white. 100% whole wheat bread instead of white. and baked sweet potatoes instead of white. Your body processes these starches differently. Something about a glycemic index..... Has to do with the blood sugar it produces. Diabetics have the same restrictions.
