Hey there Froggi - yup, you pour your "whatever" in (I can't wait to try milk and OJ for a cremesicle) and stir it periodically for about 5 minutes and apparently you get a slushie drink! I should have mine in 6-10 days so I'll be sure to let you know how it works when it gets here. Not sure about pop at all - I have a strong belief in me that if there is ANYTHING that can possibly hurt my band I will not have it - and that includes any possibility of carbonation (some say that the freezing kills the carbonation, but even if the pop is flat-I don't think I would trust it).I'm gonna ask my surgeon about that for sure...
Anyhow, that's the concept of "The Original Slush Mug".

My doc told me that I could have diet soda in a cup, let it sit a couple of minutes till the major fizzies are gone then sip. NEVER with food. I gave up my diet pepsi already so my 6 can a day habit has been replaced with a sugar free Kool aid tropical punch habit. Sometimes I miss it. Knowing my doc said I could have it, under those circumstances makes it easier for me to drink something else.

Thanks for your posting the reasons why diet soda is bad for the band. I continued drinking soda after my first fill and when I went back for the second I had lost my fill, and now I am thinking it is because of the diet Dr. Peppers. I haven't had any since, and I already notice rapid lost.

My Doc had an example of what pop (yes, I call it pop too. I'm grew up in western Pa) does to you. Take a bottle of pop & put a ballon over the opening, give it a little twirl. What do you think happens? The balloon blows up like...well like a balloon. The thing is you have a little stoma so those bubbles can't escape. Now that woul be hell. Made such an "impression" on me that I have not had a diet coke or anything fizzy since the day before surgery & I drank 3-4 oz cokes a day...sometimes more!

I have diet coke everyday, but i do let it sit there for awhile to lose some of the fizz. My Dr said it was ok and i would know if i could cope with it but some of my other friends that had it done said their dr said no. So not sure if it is ok to have or not. i just can not have it near bed time because of reflux.

my surgeon said for the first three months-no soda. however, my dietician said, "why go back after three months?" and quite honestly after NOW that it has been over three months, I can honestly say, "I do not desire to drink soft drinks." AMAZING!! I was your compulsive soda drinker. With God all things are possible. hang in there!

State: Southern Saskatchewan, Canada | The slush mugs are here... the slush mugs are here!!
So - as I gear up for surgery (ON THE 20TH!!! ) I'm getting everything stocked that I can think of, including the original SLUSH MUG! We can't buy them in Canada but I found a place online called the Vermont Country Store who would ship for me. Cost me a small fortune but soooo worth it! They really do make slush (I was skeptical but hopeful and was THRILLED at the results!!) so down the road when I am craving a Slurpee from 7-11 I'll be able to make a yummy frozen slushie treat ! I love pop and beer but I'll have an easier time giving it up knowing I'll have this to fall back on.
Getting SO EXCITED for my big day!! |

I went to a seminar with inemed... the manufacturer of the band and they told us the reason for not allowing soda is that when it hits the stomach it inflates it....which could make the band slip up towards the esophagus....

Thanks a million Band Aid!! I'm going to just use my Slush mug for juices and yogurt and such - no more pop or beer for me I'm afraid - no way! Not worth it... it's gonna pay off in the end!! |

State: Missouri | what about slurpees?
I was wondering if slurpees are off limits...the coke kind?? There doesn't seem to be any carbonation in them, just ice?
Thanks

Hey there Mizz! I wondered the exact same thing... it's why I went for the Slush Mug, but I plan on asking my surgeon when I am getting my surgery. Some say the freezing kills the carbonation but I'm going to go with whatever he tells me. If they are off limits it's OK, I'll just use some juice in the mug instead.

I said good bye to diet soda the night before surgery. I have had a sip since and it just doesn't do it for me anymore.
I love coffee now and vitamin water
I have to be very careful with the vitamin water though cause it has calories :( but I like it almost as much as I used to like soda

I gave up the carbonated drinks when I started the clear diet, which I am on for another week.
I have a different delima. i am QA at a juice plant. It is our job to be tasting juice all day everyday. (all wasted calories) Luckily it is all natural and organic stuff so that part is good. I am hoping I will be able to keep the sip tastes small enough that it won't load me up on calories.
My coworker years ago had a GB and lost an amazing amount of weight. she said since she has started she is starting to gain it all back. (her job requires more tasting) So I have to be REALLY conscious of what I am tasting all day.
Anyone else work in the food industry?

Can't you just take a sip and swish it in your mouth and not swallow if you're worried about it?
