salads? no problem as long as I take it slow! I tend to avoid the skin on tomatoes though.
Everyone fixes there salad for their own taste, so its kinda a hard question to answer.
FYI - iceberg lettuce is the hardest kind of lettuce for our tummy's to digest, regardless of banding. The more colorful/darker the lettuce is, the better and easier it is for us to eat!

well I got really into making salads, using bean sprouts, home made pickled beets, sunflower seeds, home grown tomatoes of all kinds (of COURSE!!); even cottage cheese or yoghurt at times....and all kinds of different variety of peppers...pretty much live out of the garden for months at a time....
zuccinis, squash....sliced onions...yes, it IS heaven....and not at the Izzy's salad bar with the potato salad/macaroni/choclatemousse/sugared cole slaw etc....those kinds don't work for me...
I did learn about oven baked sweet potato slices...yes, that IS heaven....
...I also was directed in pre-op diet to start using 'Balsamic Vinegar'....which is totally different thanwhat I had always thought it was....it's GREAT!!...
I worry about such hard veggies as carrots, radishes, broccoli, celery, etc...even chewed well do they go down well?? WITHOUT the PBs??? I even whizzed up my pea salad last week...talk about cautious.....but had no trouble....
Haven't tried any nuts except a few sunflower seeds....
going to movie tonight....I don't think I'll even hazzard the popcorn....

| Thats making my mouth water!
Ive had carrots & squash - no problem, but broccoli stayed with me a little longer then I wanted. Cucumbers bothered me pre-banding, so I havent ventured onto those just yet.
And movies w/o popcorn??? ugh!

Popcorn goes down easy Jack..
I was afraid to try it too but then a fellow bandster told me how it is her snack of choice and I tired it..it went down no problems. They have a new Marshmallow flavored microwave popcorn mad by Jolly Time called Mallow that is heavenly :) it's kind of a salty sweet all in one YUM!

Thanks for the tip.....
So maybe I WILL try a little popcorn tonight.....but I don't eat mashmallows (since insulin took over a large place in my daily routine) & I don't eat Jello (at least since 1958)
NOTE : those salads were PRE-band concoctions....I gotta come up with something new now I suppose....
and it's getting close to dinner....heh heh heh....

I went to Fresh Choice about a week ago with some friends and family. I ate a small dark green salad with some raw vegs with no problem. It was very small...There was no protien in the salad bar so I settled on 1/2 cup of chicken chile and 1/2 baked potatoe. We decided it was best for us to choose another place next time so meat would be easier to get. We ate there a lot so if anyone has a good suggestion for band friendly dinning I'd love to hear it.. We have four adults and four kids with us - at least.

Salads were a pleasant surprise for me. I have very little trouble with almost everything at the salad bar. Obviously I can't eat the bushel-size-bowlfuls I used to go for preband, but a normal salad is one of life's greatest pleasures. :)

I had some coleslaw the other night and it got hung up somewhere between the throad and the band, omg, it was so embarrassing, I was at a restaurant and just did make it to the restroom b4 the "slime". Once I passed that piece of carrot the slime stopped, but I was afraid to eat anymore of anything while there. Boy I chowed down when I got home, of course without slime.

Jack,
Right now I have great restriction with my band. Won't let me over eat anything except salad.
I can fill a bowl with salade and as long as I chew well it goes down till I decide to stop.
I buy the already cut up lettuce in bags by Dole called "Greener Salad" dump that in bowl throw in some extra pieces raw broccoli and some no fat dressing and just feast. Never sticks.
Have a small plate of fish and green beans with brown rice and its stcik city after a few rounds with the fork...go figure.

is it the rice do you suppose? I've managed home-canned green beans with no problem...so far the only fish I've had is the ever-popular tuna...
I am managing cheese quite nicely, but still have many foods to try...
Are raw carrots, raddishes, cucumbers, cabbage a problem at all for you?
I am trying to develop the 'chew 25 or 50 times' rule....if I puree it in my mouth it shouldn't be a problem, right?
