I thought it would be a BIG problem....but found it was not the case.

When we are not gulping huge wads and washing them down as fast as possible, the actual process called "chewing" does wonders for eliminating the urge to have to gulp fluids along with it.

It hasn't been an issue for me either. I started the 'no drinking while eating rule' and the 'chew till your food is liquid' before I was banded, so by the time I was banded I was already used to it. I too thought it would be a big deal at first, but it isn't. I don't even notice much anymore. It's become second nature, lol.

I'll admit, that was my biggest obstacle to overcome. I just make sure I don't have a drink in front of me while I eat. Simple enough. If I'm at work I'll dump my water 30 minutes prior to eating/going to lunch. That is the easiest way for me to overcome the drinking while eating.

I do take a sip of water if my food is really dry and I am having difficulty swallowing it. But if I have a glass of water with a meal (like at a restaurant) there will be less than an inch gone at the end of the meal.

I drink before the meal; my doctor has a general rule of no drinking 15 minutes prior to eating, but then also says it really doesn't matter. His rule after a meal is 1 hour. It's something I have to remind myself of, but isn't a big deal. It does save money when we go out, because I never order a beverage anymore because I don't have time to drink it before the food comes.
