re: "such a huge change not to eat when i feel like it after doing it for most of my adult hood"
indeed....and that is exactly what has gotten us all where we are today....therefore 'what we've always done' is obviously WRONG!
re: "everything seems to be food food food , everywhere i go there is pictures , smells , im getting obsessed with it , i sniff everything watching telly im like aaargh food again its a nightmare , and what i would do to go for a chicken balti i wouldnt like to say !!! is it just me or does everyone go through this stage of feeling like they are going to go mad if i dont just eat something"
Yes indeed, there is an amazing amount of commercialization that focuses on this product. And that we have not figured out that "being full" is not the same as "being NOT hungry" we fall prey to such devices all too easily.
re: "i know it will be worth it in the long run but i didnt think i would feeling like im starving myself , i thought i was supposed to feel full !!"
No, feeling "NOT hungry" is what we seek, IMHO. Much of our eating comes from "I'm a LITTLE hungry" so we eat TOO MUCH TOO OFTEN. The various chemoreceptors and other physiological cues are either defective or ignored. FULL is not, for me at least, the same as 'not hungry'.
Yes it is worth the effort, even in the short run! And you are not starving yourself even though it seems like it. Do a bit more research in the archives on 'satiety'.....this is a far more important tool if we are going to achieve our goal more easily.
My position is this: "Fullness" is NOT the measure of "Hunger" or lack thereof. Investigate what being 'half-full' does. Consider what the sensation may be of 'not full but not hungry'....
My experience is if I let the Dragon get even one scaly claw into my diet, it even now tries to take over....even though I am officially NOT HUNGRY at that time.
Old habits die hard. NEW habits can replace old ones far more easily. When I 'get hungry' I go for a walk, do a few chores, drink some water, putter around the estate, etc etc. ANYTHING but eat!! For once in my life, I'm tring to impose an actual schedule to 'eating behavior'....ie, if it's time to eat, I am gradually getting the idea to do so, as if I delay it too long, I will become overly hungry and resort to the 'pillage and burn' style of eating that produced Morbid Obesity...
cheers and good luck...
and don't fear that little edge of hunger...becoming familiar with it is not a bad thing....

City: birmingham State: england | yes so true , i need to retrain my brain to know the difference between being hungry and actually just fancying putting something in my mouth , im back to work on tuesday so the days wont seem so long and will keep me occupied , started excersing and walking which i agree keeps those demons at bay , its only been just over 2 weeks so im hoping as the weeks go by and i can really see a difference it will make me more determined , not that im not already, im just finding it hard at the moment , and i obviously wont turn into a bag of bones overnight from not eating lol !! your words are reasurring and i am taking all this info with eagerness , its so good to beable to actually talk to people who understand , i havent told anyone i have had the op , only my closest family and one friend , dont know wether that was because im scared i'll fail, or because i want to see there faces when i finally do get somewhere near my goal weight , i dont want to be judged by people i dont even know , checking me out everytime i walk out the door , its nice to keep it to yourself but then its also nice to beable to share those obsticals that i need to over come and i will do , marg xx |

City: Houston State: Tx | I just got approved by insurance company. I won't have surgery until June since DH and I are going on a cruise end of May. Doctor only requires 1 day of clear liquids before surgery. Most of you had 1-2 weeks. What do you think? Should I do a week of liquids? Did you have better results doing the liquid before?

City: birmingham State: england | pre op suggestions i had to go on a low calorie diet before the op , no more than 1000 calories a day, this is basically something to do with the liver, as it holds a lot of fat , and reduces complications if you go on a 2 weeks very low calorie diet , it shrinks the liver,(well that was what i was told) it has to be moved during the op , the day before the op i just had a light lunch salad , i was told not to eat or drink anything after 3am in the morning as my op was at 9am the next morning , had it at 9.30am , then was home the next morning at 7.30am felt great ,good luck marg xx |

City: orange county, NY State: New York | great mushy food idea Hi everyone I thought I'd tell you a yummy mushy recipe. All it is is 3oz of part skim ricotta cheese with 1/4 cup of motzerella and 3 tbs of tomatoe sauce. Put in the microwave for 60 seconds its sooooooooooooooo good. The cheese has 7 g of protein and the ricotta has 6 and the sauce 2. Its o good I have been living off of it.:clap2:

State: Alabama | I am 5 days out of surgery. I am on clear liquids for 2 weeks, water, broth, gatorade, ect. no grapfruit, orange, or anything with pulp in it. I am allowed sugar free jello. Then anything you can suck through a straw for 4 weeks. Then certain foods are ok but not red meat and things like that.

State: Alabama | I have a question. I am so tired. I mean really tired. Like I said before I am on clear liquids for 2 weeks. I can't do this for that long. I am not hungry I just feel horrible. I want to make a protien shake so bad. I have read and it seems that skim milk is ok. So here is what I am thinking. 1 lowfat yogurt, 1 scoop of soy protien, some ice and some skim milk. Blend for a long time and drink slowly. How could this be so bad? I do not want to do anything to damage my band but I need something to make me feel alive. Please help me.

City: Aztec State: New Mexico | Hi, if it is the protein you are wanting, for the energy boost, you can get zero carb isopure. It is in glass bottles similar to the Sobe drinks, I bought mine at GNC. It is a 20 ounce bottle, and has 40 g. of protein. It also comes in several flavors. I tested it so I would know what to have for after surgery and I found it a bit tart, but I stirred in a bit of Splenda, and blended it with a few ice cubes, and it was fine! If you are going to be on the clear diet for awhile longer you can also order unflavored Unjury powder, and add it to broths, jello, or anything you choose, and it has 20 g. protein per scoop. From what I have read you don't want to stress your tummy as it heals, but you need your protein, so maybe these would help. I order the unjury at www.unjury.com I have tried the vanilla and the chocolate but never the strawberry. I order it and it is delivered in 2-3 days, very fast! I hope you feel better soon! Kat |

| Does anyone know if you lose more weight on solid foods with a fill then you do on the liquid diet without a fill? |
