I need help finding protein!!

Hi!
I was just approved for surgery yesterday, waiting for a date. I am so nervous about when I start eating solids after surgery. They say that they want you to fill up on protein at every meal. I am such a picky eater and I think it is going to be hard for me. I think the only protein that I like is chicken, beef, and pork. DOes anyone have any ideas or suggestions for breakfast protein, I do not eat eggs or cottage cheese. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Help !!!!:help:

Yep. Buy the powdered non flavored protein and you can mix it with just about any food. Plus the Whey protein shakes ( flavored) are a good source when used for meal substitutes. I get mine either from GNC or Wallyworld.
Hope this helps....Dave

I use New Whey Liquid Protein shots (42 grams of protein for 3.1 ounces). They taste similar to a melted popsicle, but much thicker. My dr. sells them, or The Vitamin Shoppe. They are a bit pricey, but you won't have any problem getting your protein in with these. Good luck!

Be usre not to try to get your protien in one sitting or your body won't be able to use it. Split it into at least 3 servings. I've also found that sometimes I think of breakfast as just another meal, and eat for Breakfast what I would normally eat for lunch. I do a morning EAS Carb Control protein shake sometimes in the morning...only around 100 calories for around 20 protein grams. That way, if by late afternoon, it looks like I'm not going to get all my proteins in, I can have another hsake to supplement without eating many calories. You may also find that your food preferences change with the band. I used to love shrimp but I don't eat them now because they reak havok with my band, so it's not worth the effort....but I can still eat crab, so go figure.....

My new favorite food is the canned chicken breast, with some miracle whip and relish.
Little less than 200 calories for it, and 23g(at least) of protein. Yum yum!

Check out vitalady.com or unjury.com for protein shakes. I get a lot of the single serving and this way I can try it and make sure I like it before spending loads on a canister of it.

You can also buy a protein sampler pack from BariatricEating.com. If you do, I would get the one without the book, since the book mainly focuses on RNY.

I haven't had these, but I have heard some people (WASABubblebutt for one) say that these are bad for you. Do a search for other posts about protein.

Nonfat and lowfat dairy products are good for breakfast options if you don't like eggs or cottage cheese. Chicken, beef and pork are all good proteins, but so is fish, tofu/soy products, etc. Start reading labels now and follow other posters who recommend spreading intake throughout the day. It's hard at first to figure out what will go down well, what you like and what has good nutritional value! Protein powders, shakes and bars help when you can't seem to get it all in. Best of health!

I agree with Lauraj23 and Faithmd about the chicken salad mixture. It works with tuna too. Since it is kind of a mushie it is good when you first come off liquids.

lauraj23- I thought the morningstar sausage PATTIES sucked too. I've never tried the links or the chicken patties. I might have to try the chicken.
