Unhappy How slow is slow??

It seems as though that every time I eat my lunch and dinner I get this terrible pain on my left side that then goes through my arm. It is a really uncomfortable pain and I'm wondering if it's because I'm eating too fast? I'm only eating a 1/2 cup to 1 cup per meal, which is what I was told by my doctor and nutritionist. I just don't know how slow is slow when they tell me to eat slow????!!! I have never been a slow eater so this part is difficult for me. Can anyone help me understand how slow I am supposed to eat? How much time should I be waiting in between sips? I'm still in the full liquids stage until Wednesday then I start my pureed stage and I'm afraid that it will get worse? Please help!!!!!!!!!!Click the image to open in full size.

When I was on liquids I put my drinks into a water bottle with a screw on lid. Then I would unscrew it, take a sip, screw it back on and set it down, then I would just repeat the process. It gave me a little while in between sips and I never had any problems. With solids I chew each bite until is liquid. The advice I was given is take your normal bite of food, then cut it in half. Eat that and chew 15-20 times (after you set your fork down). Then swallow, pick up your fork and repeat. Try not to pick up your fork until your food is completely swallowed. It works for me....hope it helps!

i wouldnt necessarily go by the 1/2 cup to 1 cup... dont force it. if after 5 bites, you are no longer hungry, stop eating. give it about 2-3 mins. still not hungry? you are done.

i usually take a bite, chew until i can no longer chew, swallow and then a minute or so later, take another bite. take your time. that 'full' feeling for me is misery.
