Does anyone drink beer?

I'm not a huge drinker but now that it is getting warmer, I've had a craving for a nice cold glass of beer. I was told by my nutritionist that the carbination will stretch the stomach. I was just wondering if a couple of glasses once in a while would really hurt. Does anyone have any advice?

Hi Pattyann!
Not sure if this actually happens. But everytime Ive tried even a sip of beer I have a lot of discomfort - and do alot of belching. So! As much as I love beer, this is one beverage that is on my "NO" list.
wish I had better news :(

I've not tried beer yet. You might try a search on "beer" becaue I do know we've talked about it. We have some folks here that do drink the occasional beer. My DH hasn't had any trouble with Lambic, but he can drink soda without any discomfort.

Well, I don't drink much, but I recently had some root beer and it was a terrible experience! I was a belching machine--all I could think was "thank goodness I am here in my car ALONE!!!!" not pretty!

I will take one sip of my husbands but that is all I can have because it hurts if I drink more! I really miss an ice cold beer!

I was told NO carbonation, so I stopped drinking beer. But I recently saw a frosty freshly cracked-open beer and couldn't resist. I was suprises that it tasted gross. I guess it officially takes one year to stop liking beer, and I LOVED beer.

I tried one today! Low calorie/low carbohydrate beer. I poured it in a glass and put it back in the refrigerator for a while to get rid of some of the carbonation, it wasn't exactly flat, but close. Believe it or not, it tasted great!! I won't drink it too often, because of the calories and all but it was very refreshing on a warm day like today, after working in the yard all day.

I haven't tried beer but I've tried pop. If I take more than 2 sips I about die of pain. I learned my lesson after the one time I tried drinking 6 oz. of rootbeer and was in pain for hours with burping and pain in the chest and abdomen.

P.S. Paula, it's a site that she must've created for Fantasia fans. It's like her tribute to Fantasia. She's a fan!

I date often and find myself in drinking situations alot. I can drink beer if I do it slow. I refuse to eliminate alcohol. I already gave up my beloved Diet Pepsi for this thing. Yeah, yeah, calories, carbonation, whatever. I drink about 2 beers a month and maybe 2 glasses of wine a month. Tried a sip of Diet Pepsi and didn't care for the taste anymore. Who would have thought?

Down 40lbs since November. Size 10 jeans. (lots of stretch) Heartburn free!

I must confess that, contrary to my surgeons instructions, I drank a beer. Before I say too much, let me say this. If your going to break a rule, do it well. I made the mistake of downing a cheap beer (mickeys), whereas for the same calories and discomfort, I could have gone with a microwbrew.

I am not without excuse. You see, nobody, save my lovely wife, knows that I have been banded. This of course makes for fantatic family get-togethers. The other day I had some family over and sat down with a conspicuiously tiny plate of beans, chips, and lettuce. Someone noticed that I "wasn't hungry" and insisted I at least have a beer.

Fortunately, my stomach did just fine. I went slowly, which I think is the secret, and stirred the bottle a lot to get rid of the bubbles.

My only advice, besides listen to your doctor, is that if your going to have a beer - GO WITH THE GOOD STUFF.

I, too, used to really enjoy beer now and then, especially when it's very hot outside. But the advice to bandsters is to stay away from ALL carbonated drinks. Once when I got some food seriously stuck, I remembered the suggestion on one Board of drinking two sips of warm Diet Pepsi to push it down --- that worked great, so it's clear to me that carbonated drinks do stretch the stomach, and I avoid them completely, for safety. I was, however, quite pleased to find out that Margaritas do not have any carbonation - YEA!
