whey vs. soy

i was banded on 4/17/07, and have been trying to get my protien in everyday. whenever i take anything with whey in it, i get sick.. and it hurts! i was really worried because i had only managed maybe 70-80 grams in the past week since my banding. does anyone else have this problem?
whey wasnt working so i tried soy, and i havent had to much of an issue with it..
whats the difference between the two?
o and im not lactose intolerant so thats not it, i actually mix my soy with milk to make my shakes now..
o and i never had a problem with whey before i got my band...:phanvan
oiy.. im getting so tired of this.. any advice is appreciated

sorry for the choppiness and dot dot dots all over this post, i cant think straight (lack of protein?):( :(

Edie,
How many Carnations do you use for one shake? The sf ones I bought only have like 7 or something. Just wondering.

As long as you're getting protein in I don't think it matters whether it's whey or soy protein. Pretty soon you'll be on mushies so you'll have more options too. As far as not having a problem with whey until you were banded....sometimes that does happen. I used to be able to eat pork and I can no longer do that without getting sick no matter how well I chew it. Some things just don't agree anymore. Good luck!

If I were you I'd search around a bit on the forum. These topics have come up before. In this thread, for example, people talked about protein shakes:
http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthrea...ight=carnation

I know that some people have said that the Carnation breakfasts are high on sugar, but I have not checked. Also, it seems to me that they would be likely to have whey protein instead of soy, but again, I have not checked.

As for soy protein, I've heard some people say that plant-based proteins like soy can be harder to digest, but I've seen other people say they like them a lot. As for me, I know I prefer the taste of soy protein over whey.

But again, I would search the forum with keywords like whey, soy, carnation, protein, etc. I think you'll find a lot of info.

You may also want to look for an egg based protien supplement.

I heard that Whey is more easily digestible so I think that's why most people use it over soy. But, as far as which one is "better" I'm not sure there's any difference. So, if soy works better for you then I'm sure you're OK. I use a combo of both. Personally, soy protein seems to keep me satisfied longer than whey...go figure!
