State: Virginia | I haven't had my surgery yet but this question was brought up to the receptionist at my surgeons office. My surgeon does all surgeries on Friday. She had the surgery and said that physically she felt well enough to work on Monday but was still pretty tired. She recommended that if you feel you are physically able to go back to work, plan to work half days on Monday and Tuesday and by Wednesday you should be back to your old self.

| You're right about the gas... I just had my surgery on Friday 5/9 and returned on Tuesday. Walk, walk, walk and walk some more and take Gas-X strips or chewables. Be careful not to swallow air when you drink. I had only tylenol once in the hospital for pain and liquid ibuprofen at home, but that was for my back pain. The surgery is EASY! The gas - not so much. Also watch out for diarreaha if your doc has you on clear liquids... the sugar free stuff can induce "montezuma's revenge" if you're not careful!

City: Goodlettsville State: Tennessee | I was banded in October, 2007 and missed 4 days of work. I also work in an office and other than being sore from the stitches, I had no problems. I took Gas-X which really helped with the gas.
Good luck with your surgery. I have lost 70 pounds and have about 70 more to go....half way there!! |

City: Poughkeepsie State: New York | My surgery is on June 3rd. I'm planning on taking 2 weeks off from work. Only because I work at the airport and I'm on my feet all day long and lift very heavy bags. My doctor is also planning on giving me a note to be on light duty after I go back for a few weeks. I'm very worried about riping the stitches. |

City: Somewhere State: Indiana | I'm having surgery next Wednesday, and then going in to work for an hour the next day for staff meeting. As soon as that's done, I'm out the door and back home. I also plan to just wear in sweat pants and a hoodie to be comfy!
I will be on call starting Friday afternoon, so I'll have to run in to pick up the bag and pager. Most pages just require a phone call and I don't have to leave the house. If there are any major events, I might have to go to a police department for a half hour, but I think I should be able to handle that, especially since I can make one of the kids drive me.
I'll really be back at work on Tuesday, and hopefully it won't be too busy. As long as few juveniles get arrrested, I should have an easy first week back, since I didn't schedule very many appointments. If very many get arrested, I'll be busy talking to people, but no heavy work.

State: Virginia | Hey Penny what do u do??
I am a shift supervisor at juvie and I am having to take 2 weeks off dr. orders and then when I come back I will limit my time on the floor with the kids just in case a fight or something breaks out... but as the supervisor I am not supposed to be restraining kids anyway :)
Almost never happens anyway (maybe 2 times in a year actually)
Unless someone gets stupid and gets arrested then I get to process the females into the facility... so thats all the concern I have
And I have an office I got a fridge for so I can keep all my food I can have in my office instead of what they have on the floor with the kids.
An advantage overall LOL

| My doctor said he'd authorize a couple weeks off if I felt that I needed it, but I don't (usually) have to get physical with the clients, so I should be OK.
We do have a shoot coming up about a month after I get banded, and I'm a little worried about it. I don't usually have to do the "drop and shoot" poses since I have arthritis, and the police officers who do our weapons training give me a pass on those. Everyone else drops to their knees, but I get to stay upright. Quote: |

| Some of these kids just don't quite get it, do they? They think they can do anything and get away it. Well, at least until the police arrive.

City: Sumter State: SC | My full-time job is working at a school, so we will be out by my surgery date, but I am also part-time reference librarian at my county library. I am having surgery Wednesday and hoping to come back to work Saturday, but that is usually a 9.5 hour day. I am afraid I won't be able to make it that long.

City: middletown State: new york | I also work in an office and went back after a week. I was feeling a little tired.. but that was because i had lounged for a week and got used to napping during the day. I had no real pain, other than some minor gas and bloating. It all depends on the individual. do what feels best for you and I wish you a speedy recovery..

City: Independence State: Missouri | I have about 175 hours of sick time accumulated. I am going to strive for a month off. I work in a warehouse unloading trucks all day. Lots of lifting, twisting, bending and walking. I wore a pedometer once and in just a regular 10 hour day I walked over 12,000 steps. Plus if I am on liquids for 1-2 weeks afterwards, I want to get more strength through my food before I go back.
