I will be going to see my surgeon one last time tomorrow before my surgery and I was wondering what it will consist of. Will they draw blood, do any test, etc? I haven't seen the anetheseologist yet. Will I do that also? I really don't know what to expect. Any input would be great.

Just guessing here, but it sounds like this is just a final checkup to make sure everything is going the direction it should be before surgery. I am very excited for you and humbled at your pre-op work you have done! I didn't have to do anything pre-op (except not gain weight)...of course I paid for it because I didn't want to have to wait 6-9 months to jump through hoops with my insurance, which probably would not have okayed me anyway. I consider myself to be a supreme success story with the band. I cannot say enough positive things about it. Everything I "went through" as a learning process has been totally worth it. I feel great, I look great, my health is good...LIFE is good! Welcome to Bandland!

If it is like mine, they will go over all of your pre-op tests, review preparation for surgery day, review post-op care and schedule your first post-op visit. Mine also did a body scan but I am not sure if all surgeons do this. (You take off all your clothes, step into what looks like one of those photo booths you see in an airport, close the curtain, then the machine scans your entire body and they get a computer image of your body mass). My surgeon also took my picture, he does progress pictures and creates a little journal for me to keep when I reach goal.
As far as all of the people involved in surgery including anesthesiologist, I met them all after I checked into the hospital. They each came in one-by-one and introduced themselves and explained what their role will be while I signed paperwork.

He had me take a test (paper & pencil) to make sure I knew what I was getting into. He also did a general check up to make sure I was sick or being treated for any other recent medical issues. Now, one week before surgery I went to the hospital for pre-op testing. While there I had my blood drawn (like 1,000 tubes of it!), an EKG, and a chest x-ray. I also had to attend a pre-opt bariatric seminar. It was actually very informational and all the others in the class had the same surgery date as me so we got to know each other and we all had rooms next to each other.

My pre-op visit was alot like the last post - blood was drawn, EKG accomplished and Chest X-Ray. I also meet with an internal med doc just to make sure there were no concerns with current meds, etc.. Then I had to attend a seminar where the nutritionist talked to all of us (all having surgery on the same day) about what we will need to do the 1-2 days before surgery, the day of surgery and the weeks that will follow. I also was given a urine cup and special soap to use the morning of my surgery. Oh, i also forgot - I was given some kind of syrup that I have to drink 1/2 at noon and then the other 1/2 at 2 the day before my surgery. They said I need to make sure to be by a bathroom because it will be a "quick cleaner!" I also met with my surgeon who checked everything out in my chart, answered any questions that I had and then that was it! Good luck....my surgery is tomorrow. I am excited!!!
