I was allowed to have protein drinks 3 times aday, That saved me. You will be able to eat more soon, You are healing, you will feel better very soon. Take each day as they come you will be fine good luck

I was on clear liquids for the first five days - no protein drinks were allowed. I felt very tired and had no energy and was even light-headed at times.
I know it feels like an eternity right now, but it is really important to follow your doctor's instructions. Once you can move to protein drinks and then onto more solid food the memory of your pain right now will pass, I promise :-)

Gina, I felt the same way. For the first few days, I only served myself 2oz at a time, and it took me 30-40 minutes to get that little bit down. I was lucky if I got 30 oz in for the whole day. Hang in there!

thanks in advance Gina B. | Hi Gina,
THe first week my diet consisted of 4oz jello/breakfast, 4oz crystalite/lunch and 4oz broth/dinner and I had to drink at least 48oz of water in between - that was only the 1st week. 2nd week came the protein drinks and more calories. 3rd week was mushie stage, added eggs, yogurt, pudding. And now the 4th week is finally here and I can eat FOOD!!! Don't worry you'll be fine, just take one day at a time. We've all been there, were concerned just like you, but we made it thru and best of all lost some pounds along the way.
Keep up the good work :clap2:

I used shot glasses for my water the first few days. Someone on this site taught me that trick. If I'm looking at a big glass or bottle of water, it's too much. I would pour up a shot and just work on getting it down. In the begining, it's mind over matter. Hang in there!

I've heard that if you drink 1/2 cup every 1/2 hour you should be fine. Does your doctor allow you protein shakes? If so I would sip one of those thew first hour. That will really help. Julie

I just had my band on 04/09 and feel the same way. Mostly been having broth, jello and protien shakes but only 1-2 oz at a time and sipping on water all day.
As far as that horse on your chest, try Gas X strips. They havn't made all of the heavy feeling go away but it does help.

Gina you will be fine, this is all normal. I found it kind of funny when it happend to me. I had the surgery because I could not control my eating and then I could control it and I paniced. It is normal because your stomach is only about a 30 ml pouch (FYI is the cup on liquid tylenol) We all were used to eating about 99% more than that with every meal. I was on liquids for almost 4 weeks post banding. The important part is to push protein, protein, protein and water, water, water. If you cannot drink the water try ice cubes, in the long run it is still water. I have had my band since 2005 still if I do not eat protein and lack energy and feel like I am starving. The longer you have your band the more you will be able to eat and drink. The pain that you have in your chest is most likely swelling around the band site. That goes away in about 1-2 weeks. Also, at this stage I made crystal lite and poured it into ice cube trays and would eat them like popsicles. Another tip, when you can have protein drinks take the protein powder and blend it in the blender with ice cubes and a tbs of peanut butter. It adds more protein and alot more taste. Good luck.
