I arrived at the hospital at 7:00 a.m. the day of surgery and I went into surgery around 11:00 a.m. Surgery only took 45 mins. and I was in post-op in no time. They released me from the hospital around 5:00 p.m. I really wasn't there long at all, but everyone is different.
If I ever had a bladder tube or nose tube, they inserted them after I was out and removed them before I woke up. To my knowledge, I never had either.

I arrived to hospital day before surgery and left two days after surgery so all together 4 days.I know that in the USA the stay in hospital is very short, but I was pretty happy to be there especially after surgery cause the beds are much better and ara higher so you dont have any pain while getting up from your bed.
I didnt have any nose tubes or anything just the funny stockings(is that the right word?) so I wouldnt get embolia:-)

I was in surgery waiting room at 9:30, in pre-op at 1:00, OR at 1:30, woke up at about 3:00, post-op until 4:00, then checked out of my regular room at 9:30. I went back in the morning for a swallow test/x-ray.
I had no tubes in me, except for an IV (which took 5 trys to get in because I was so dehydrated by 1:00). If you have to wait a long time before surgery, I recommend requesting that they at least put an IV in earlier for fluids. They did give me a shot in the stomach to prevent blood clots, and I also had to wear the stockings and warm leg wraps. They want you up and walking as soon as you feel you can.
Best wishes on your upcomming surgery!

My surgery itself went smooth. No catheter. Just had an IV with morphine pump if needed for pain. My insurance required an overnight stay for observation. There were some problems that were out of my control. First, my surgery was delayed because of a problem with my doctor's case ahead of me. The actual surgery itself was only like an hour. Then I had to wait for an available bed so I was in recovery for three and half hours waiting for a bed. The next morning I had my testing to make sure swallowing and eveything was ok. The doctor came in around 9:30 and said that I could go. But she accidently forgot to sign some of my paperwork and the hospital would not relase me until they could get that straight. I had an adventure to say the least. Moral of the story is to just be mindful that things out of your control can happen. Still have no regrets.

Me too nothing. Got to Santa Agracis in Monterrey Mexico at 11:00 had preop testing which consisted of bloodwork, gave my happy shot in my iv they started and within 30 min. was in surgery. Took 45 min. then off to recovery then to room and walking in 10 min. Needed absolutely nothing. They give you strong pain meds every 4 hours for the 12 hours you'll there without you even asking because I didn't even need. Then they give you strong pain meds to bring home with you but I gave mine to one of the girls that was staying with us at the guest house and had surgery 30 min. before me as she couldn't handle pain well.
Here's a pic. 10 min. after getting to my room after surgery.

My operation started at 9:30 AM, I was in recovery by 1:30 PM, and was discharged by 7:30 PM the same day... For safety, I stayed in a hotel room 6 blocks from the hospital... Not a bad idea if where you are getting your band is some distance away (in my case, 900 miles). They require you to walk as soon as possible, which was fine for me, I was ready to oblige them... Hospitals are pretty boring places to be. They left an IV in, but it wasn't connected to anything. I never needed it after the surgery. When in bed I put on a cuff for blood pressure, and had to plug in a cord that led to an O2 clip on my finger, but that was it..
I had a rhaspy voice from the tube, and an inflamed prostate from the urinary tube (tell them you want the doctor, not a student to put it in), but both were out by the time I was awake...
Overall it wasn't that bad, aside from the pain when peeing for three days after... I drank cranberry juice and that helped put down the swelling.

I was in one night. I had a catheter inserted while in surgery and oxygen was in most of the first day. I was not allowed anything to drink the day of surgery until the next morning when they x-ray'd me. They waited until the next day because swelling can increase overnight and they wanted to make sure I was able to get fluid through. You can read my entire hospital post in one of my past posts.

Thanks and good health to all. | My throat was only sore for about 18 hours after surgery. Drinking cold water helped soothe the pain. Jack, did they accidentally scrape your trachea during intubation? I've had 15 surgeries, most with intubation, and have never had a sore throat last for more than a day.

THANK YOU ALL..... It sounds about like I expect and pretty uneventful. Did you all have someone stay at the hospital with you the whole time? If so, how much of that time were they actually with you?:notagree
