Needless to say, I've only lost 7 lbs since was supposed to start the diet. In a cruel twist of fate my surgery was moved from may 30th to the following week - its almost as though they knew!! I'm sad but I'm sitting here drinking my butter pecan ensure and getting myself back on track again.
I noticed that u said that u were drinking BUTTER PECAN ENSURE... when my mother wouldnt eat the Dr. told us to give her ensure because it has a lot of calories and fat in it... i think u are drinking the wrong thing... u dont want that kind of shake that's not a weight loss drink... just an fyi...

Hi All,

I Am Fairly New To This Website And I Have Been Learning So Much. I Will Be Banded On May 30th. I Kind Of Put Myself On The Liquid Diet For The Past Day, Just Because My Surgery Is Around The Corner. The Docs Office Ordered Me Some Optifast And Told Me To Start It As Soon As It Arrives, But I Haven't Received It Yet.

When I Met With The Dietician On The 21st, She Told Me I Would Be Doing The Liquid Diet For Two Weeks, But When I Met With The Program Coordinator Afterwards, She Was Able To Secure Me An Appt With The Surgeon For The 28th With A Surgery Date For The 30th. She Said Since I Had A Lower Bmi I Didn't Need To Be On The Liquid Diet For Two Weeks.

I Wasn't Sure Whether Or Not To Go Ahead And Start Liquids, But I Did Because I Had Anticipated Having My Protein Drinks By Now. I Sure Am Hungry Though. I Am Going Through Food Withdrawals, Lol!!! Maybe Not, But Definitely Through Caffeine Withdrawals. No Carbonated Drinks, That Is The Major Test For Me, But I Know In The Long Run It Will Be Better For Me And The Appearance Of My Skin.

I Will Be 40 In July And Want To Keep Looking Young As Long As Possible. Most People Think I Am In My Late 20's Or Early Thirties. I Do Everything Possible To Keep Looking Young And Now I Am Getting Banded To Feel Young. I Don't Have Any Energy Due To Excess Weight, So In Order To Be Healthy And More Active, I Need To Get The Weight Off.

Well I Guess I've Rambled On Enough. I Am Currently At Work. I Am A Registered Nurse In Waco, Tx With A Specialty In Pediatrics. Time For Midnight Rounds. Good Luck To Everyone.

OMG I started my liquid diet yesterday
and I feel as if I could eat a wooden plank

I cheated I had string cheese ok so it's low fat and low carb and has
protein but it's not on my list...
I can have cottage cheese or 100 cal yogurt
or sugar free jello which makes me crave due to the sweetener
the same with the sugar free pudding and the sugar free popsicles
I guess I need to rearrange my diet to fit my
883 cal/79g carb/111g protein

ugh

Depending on how you utilize it Ensure can be a part of a weight loss plan. It is one of the recommendations made by my doctor and nutritionist as a non lactose item for my pre surgery liquid diet. It has 190-250 calories and 9-12g protein depending on variety of flavor and function (hi protein, fiber, calcium etc) and 6-8 g of fat. Slim fast generally has 180-220 calories, 3-5g fat and 9-10g protein but has lactose which is an issue for me.

Ok well every Dr. is definately diffrent becaue i have printed information that states to stay away and i quote 'AVOID protein supplements such as boost, edge, ensure and regular slimfast' Just trying to pass along some information that assisted me in making better choices... I checked online and those that they said to avoid are way high in carbs & sugar.. If your body is spending 50% of the time burning the carbs u ate, and the 50% burning off the sugar than yr body has no time to burn off fat... or verry little time to burn it off... and actually sugar turns into carbs anyway..so as long as it is working for u then kudos....

Well, this is day 7 of my 7 day pre-op liquid stage. Tomorrow is surgeryI made it through without even one little cheat. I am sooo proud of myself. It actually wasn't as bad as I had anticpated. I do believe that once I got into a routine of what to eat and when, I did so much better. After the second day it was really much easier. So tomorrow is my big day. I am not nervious, yet. Very excited though. I'm just spending my day today preparing for tomorrow. Making sure I have everything in the house I may need for the next 4 days. I just plan on watching movies, sleeping and taking several small walks. I'm going to put myself first for once and take care of me. Good luck all, I'll write again w/all the updates.

Wishing you the best for your surgery. Today is day 1 of my liquid diet. I have to drink the optifast shakes...and well...let's hope they start to taste better the hungrier I get. But I have vowed to myself that this is not a choice. I must follow the preop diet no matter what!

6 weeks seems excessive

This friday I meet with my bariatric clinic's dietition. My surgeon starts me on a 6 week Optifast liquid diet the following Tuesday. It seem excessive from what I have read. I am 54 5'7" 260. My target weight is 185. According to the surgeon, I will lose 40-45 pounds during these 6 weeks. How many weeks of pre-op diet did you have to do?

Today is my first day of a 2 week liquid diet. I have to keep my protein at 70gs per day. I can have no solids, all liquids. Im doing EAS Protein shakes in the morning, which has 42 grams of protein. Then 2 high protein slim fast shakes. Then to make up the difference, I have purchased the special k, protein mix that goes into water, it has about 5 grams. Mean while, I have the option to drink all the water, sugar free jello, sugar free popsicles, crystal light, chicken or beef broth, or blenderized soups. Maintaining my calorie intake to 800-1000 cal a day. The doc said that if I have not lost any weight, then he would stop the surgery and reschedule, so I have to do this. There is no other option for me. So, today is day one. Im really hoping that I have the will to do this for a month, 2 weeks prior and 2 weeks after. Good luck guys.

I have to do the preop diet for two weeks. Bless your heart for having to do it for six weeks. But it will all be worth it.

You will do just fine. I also have to do the two weeks before and the two weeks after but I am only going to take one day at a time. I am not very worried about the two weeks after surgery...yet...atleast I hope for the first few days I won't really feel hungry so I hope that helps me...
