Smile Pre-op beer drinking

Hi, I am new to this forum. I will be done with my 6 months worth of doctor visits for weight loss at the end of July (Insurance requires this before they will think about aproving the surgery) Any way , I like to enjoy a few beers here and there and I have heard that I should go cold turkey and not drink at all for 2 months before the surgery. Is this true? Do some surgeons require this while others do not?

Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I can't answer exactly what YOUR surgeon wants....

I used to be a "beer drinker"....and had been for over 30 years, enjoying every last single opportunity and appreciated each frothy drop and foamy dribble....and for the life of me can not recall ANYTHING productive that came of that enjoyment.

Then in 1990 I was given the choice of insulin injections twice a day, OR chance the likelihood of my vision and/or kidneys crapping out.

It took 7 years to get over quitting cold turkey. Now I don't know how I EVER could stand the stuff.

We Morbidly Obese will be faced with changing our eating and drinking behavior.

It certainly is worth ANY effort to regain our lost health.

I've found ways to explore and enjoy the New Freedoms of my postOp Life.

Question Im very glad for you Jack

Hey Jack,
Im very glad that you havnt drank in such a long time. That is really great. Im sure you are really loving life now.

My question is: Did your surgeon allow you to drink your beer right up to the day before surgery?

Thanks,
Sue

I had my last beer two weeks before surgery.
I did have a one week liquid diet before surgery.

Now that it's hot, I miss a cold beer.......but I am loving the way I look and feel, so it's sooooooo totally worth it!

You know drinking beer to u is prob. like soda pop was for me... at first i couldn't ever imagine not drinking pop, but i haven't had it since 2-weeks before banding which was the beg. of may and i haven't had a sip, or even a thought of drinking it and i'm cool.... U just have to have a made up mind to want to change bad behavior whatever that may be.... But one thing i do know is, is that beer and other liquor's add weight to u... i has a lot of carbs in it, and it will make it harder to loose weight... that is one bad factor but ultimately u have to make the choice for u...
