I am a super newbie as I am only going to the DR for the first time today. I attended a seminar and did some research and now I am ready to start from scratch. My insurance will cover the procedure and I guess Im just curious as to how long from day 1 until you actually get scheduled for the surgery? I know you have to have some tests done and the psych part of it. How long after the procedure can you go back to work? Looking forward to getting you know you all.

As a self pay, I was able to get signed up on the night of the seminar I went to, and two weeks later I was on the operating table.

In that two weeks I had to have an EKG done (10 minutes), a psyc review (2 hours), blood work (15-20 minutes - Had to fast for it for 12 hours or so), and a general health physical by a nurse practitioner (2 hours). I was able to get all of this done within about 3 days time, but I had to schedule as soon as possible.

I have heard that it takes a while longer if you're paying via insurance on account of them possibly requiring more tests, etc.

On going back to work - Well, I had my surgery done yesterday and right now I wouldn't feel fit to go back for at least 3-4 days. I'm probably not the trooper that some people are, but when it comes to being cut open I'd like to make use of as much time as I can before I have to go back to work.

Hi There, my insurance and all the preop work took about 6 weeks or so. I took only 5 days off and was back to work. I do have a desk job though so I don't lift or stand all day. I guess it depends on what you do for a living. Enjoy your preband. The work starts afterwards! Good luck.

Welcome to LBT kerry.
I had my band in australia it would have taken 6 weeks for initial consultation to actual surgery however, I discovered I was pregnant a week before the surgery was to take place...needless to say i had to delay it for 10months! Best wishes as you embark on this journey.
keep us posted.
