HELP! Dining Out Question

:help:
Today is my 25th Wedding Anniversary and my 1 month post op anniversary. :clap2:

To tell the truth I almost forgot and so didn't make plans. We always go to dinner to celebrate. I know my wife is NOT expecting to go out because of the new me, but I would love to surprise her with dinner out in addition to the flowers I ordered.

Should I try dining out? Just order some soup or maybe go somewhere and order a diet plate with tuna salad or something? I already tried some mushies (egg salad, tuna salad) at home this weekend and did fine.

Any advice is appreciated.

Go for it. Stick to the light stuff (soup, rice, etc.), but since you have no restriction yet, you'll likely do just fine.

You can order a soup as an appetizer (I like French onion, and I cut it so the cheese is in small pieces). And for dinner have an appetizer off the menu or a fish or chicken dish. Enjoy! Live! This time will only come once, worse case, you bring home a doggie bag. Now go make reservations!!!

Congratulations!!!!
At one month out, you should be on to mushies now, and could find some things you could likely eat. As has been pointed out, your restriction will probably not be severe at this point. Stick to a soft diet.
If you are worried too much, then splurge and go out for dessert---most of them go down with no issue!!! I normally would not suggest such---but 25 years deserves celebration.

We went out to a place called Mimi's as one of my first dining out experiences---and they had a chicken pot pie, that was perfect for me! I think if you look at the menu this time with your band in mind as opposed to just your taste buds (harder said than done I know!!!) you will do fine.

Enjoy your special time with your special lady!!! Congratulations again! And welcome to bandland too!!!

LOL..Dining out..

I had surgery last Tuesday July 31st

3 days of clear liquids...then I had to get out of the house to feel human again!!!!!!

Thursday Night: Ate a 1/4 cup of chicken broth at Boston Market...My girl had a beautiful chicken platter...LOL

Friday Night: I ate about a 1/4 cup of chicken pot pie soup broth(creamy)..my girl had a scrumptious Fiesta Salad..

Saturday Night: I had a 1/4 cup of Crab Bisque at the Anchorage...my girl had melt in your mouth fried scallops

Sunday Night: Fat Free Sugar free Chocolate Fudge pudding...3oz hehehe dined in

Monday Night: East Bay Crab and Grill..1/4 cup of shrimp bisque while my girl and freinds had soup and salads...maybe another quarter cup while they had Sushi, Calamari, Shrimp, Crabs, and warm bread...UUUUUGGHHHH!!!!!!!!

LMAO..I SURVIVED and my girl still enjoys going out. She isnt fat so she can eat what she wants! I hate her..J/K

I was satisfied every time and enjoyed being out. I figured it out...this food lusting is a total mind thing and you can still go out and have a nice time. I didnt eat any solids...just the broths. GO HAVE FUN WITH YOUR WIFE!!!!!!!!!!!

Jobstud - I am celebrating my 20th tomorrow night and am only 6 days out.:clap2: We are going to the Outback. They have great potato soup, Just plan ahead a little. Most places (chains) have their menus online. I printed it out and circled all the things I could eat. Not much at this point, but eventually a few selections. When I am able to eat more, I am going to ask that half my meal be wrapped up to go immediately.

Congrats on your anniversary - I only have 5 more years to get to 25.

THANKS FOR ALL THE ADVICE!

My son (age 17) conspired on the surprise dinner. He loves to do that stuff plus he loves to EAT! Anyway we settled on RED LOBSTER. I picked up my wife at her job (we commute together) as usual and as we drove in the driveway I honked for my son to come out. She knew something was up but wasn't sure until I turned into the RL Parking lot. She was very pleased and surprised.

I had looked at their online menu and decided in advance what to have that I figured I could eat without problems. My wife and son had Clam Chowder which I knew was very thick and chunky so I went with Lobster Bisque. I passed on salad, but they had theirs. Then while the wife had shrimp alfredo and my son had steak and lobster, I had broiled flounder and mashed potatoes.

Needless to say after the soup I was just about full. I ate a few bites of the flounder and chewed very well like I am supposed to. I had a tiny bit of mashed potatoes and a couple of pinches of those cheddar garlic biscuits in the time they had their plates clean. Dessert? NO WAY! I was satisfied and knew I could have some sugar free pudding later at home.

Oh and when we got home, the florist had left the flowers and big silver HAPPY ANNIVERSARY balloon I had ordered. It was very nice and I was proud that I could once again go out to dinner and feel "normal" again. I was also proud that I resisted temptation to over indulge and stopped when my band reminded me with that full sensation before getting sick and ruining a nice time. I know now that I can live a normal existance and enjoy sharing dining out with the family. :hungry:

Now I have to get the family to relax a little. The wife and son watched me carefully and every time I put down the fork they asked if I was OK. It will take some training on their part as it will with me.

First off...well done on the sweet date! Second...I told my girl if she asked me one more time if I was OK that I was going to take a big bite of bread and swallow it so I could finally tell her no!...LOL!!!!!

:clap2: GOOD ANSWER!

I know its just out of love but I just want to be treated normally. I am healed now and not sick :sick so don't treat me so delicately. I always say, "Believe me if I was having a problem I would let you know right away."

I do understand the adjustment for them. After all my wife, who has known me for 30+ years and my son all my life as someone who ate most meals without letting the fork leave my hand.
