H. Pylori - what is current treatment?

I was also diagnosed with H.pylori today after receiving my preop blood work results. I also rcvd the Prevpac and started it tonight. my concern is after treatment do I have to wait a longer amt of time to get banded? I am prayng that this will not hold things up! I am so desperate to begin this lifestyle change! Please any advice will be greatly appreciate . thanks so much!

Hi Massa36,
I just finished a 10-day course of 'quadruple therapy' - antibiotics, antacids. I survived it!

When is your surgery date? I would think that as long as the antibiotics are done, you would be fine to go, unless you were actually diagnosed with an ulcer (instead of just a positive test for the germ that causes ulcers. Some doctors may do a follow up test to make sure the infection is cured.

But, that's a good question for the doctor's office.

Hi Massa,

Most doctors want a follow up EGD to confirm that the H. Pylori is gone. I would definitely ask your doctor about this. Shouldn't hold you up unless you don't have time to complete all your meds and have another test.

Thanks Lizalee. I am called my doctor today and I'm hoping for a return call today. I am praying this is not something that will hold me up! I am expecting an early May surgery date. Please keep me in your prayers and thanks for you prompt reply! I am really nervous about this!
