Clinical Nutrtionist VS. Bariatric Physician

Could someone please explain the difference to me? In my paperwork it says after intial consult I will be referred to either a Clinincal Nutritionist or Bariatric Physician? Also has anyone seen a Nutritionist and lost weight and then been denied for surgery because of progress with the nutritionist?

Normally I think you will see both the nutritionist and the surgeon. Usually the nutritionist is first - they have a lot of information to give you regarding your diet - now and after surgery. Protein, protein and protein. Your surgeon is basically only concerned about the surgery and getting the insurance company to approve the surgery. As long as your BMI is over 35, you shouldn't have a problem getting approved. They will do what your insurance company requires. Some insurances require a 6 month supervised diet with a physician prior to approving the surgery. If you are self pay, then there shouldn't be any problems.
