Sushi

So as the end of the post op diet is coming soon and it'll be back to regular food. Just wondering if anyone has tried to eat Sushi. I love the stuff and well would hate to give it up.

Any foods that people have had major problems with?

Its a funny thing this band. One day I can eat a 1/2 bran muffin and the next day it gets stuck...
Steak has been tricky, I cut it in TINY pieces and chew 20-30 times per bite... sometimes it still gets stuck.
Chicken is good, FISH is the best thing to eat I've found.
Had no troubles with any vegetables!!! Yeah!

I always have to be careful with my FIRST Bite of anything though, and chew well, then WAIT... for that second bite. I think I hurry when I am hungry for my meal...

Chicken wings go down well too.
Pork chops get stuck, pork tenderloin is o.k. as also Ham... Spare ribs... too stringy. Ground beef is o.k. as we..

Very interesting............! You are the 1st I've read with my main issue, that 1st bite can be a . someone told me to take a sip of warm tea, I thought it helped but now not sure it really matters. The really strange thing is how after recouping from the 1st I can then go on to eat a fair amount with no problem. almost too much! I do love how the chicken wings go down!(pizza too!) but my list is a bit different as some veggies don't do well and fish was, but not always, one of my worst nightmares. spare ribs went well.sorry,

So, got a ? when you say "stuck" do you mean just on that 1st bite, or the whole thing?? I don't think there is really anything that I can't eventually eat if I wait long enough for the initial knot in my throat to clear and then eat very slowly. If only I weren't so damm stuborn I'd give up,stop eating , and lose wt. faster!

Ya that First Bite syndrome got me today again at lunch.
I had a chicken breast(no skin or bone) 2 oz. cut up small mixed with Mashed Turnip(still chunky) 3/4 cup...

Well that first tiny forkfull AUCK! Just a painful lump. I go to the bathroom toss it ... then continue my meal... slowly
then I can get everything in no problem. I actually wish I could eat LESS volume and think I need another 'tweek' fill of about .25 cc's or maybe .5 cc... would be just about right.

I am going on vacation to Cuba a week from today, so I've booked my FILL for my return.

I have not lost any more weight since my 2nd fill... initially I could only get in about 800 cals a day, now I can get between 100 - 1500.... too many!!!

Easy Cheese Grits

Combine 3 cups of water and 2 teaspoons of salt and bring to a boil. Stir in 3/4 cups of uncooked quick grits and cook over low heat 5-10 minutes or until done.

Combine 2 eggs, beaten, 1/3 cup melted butter or margarine. Stir a small amount of hot grits into the egg mixture, stirring well; then stir the egg mixture into the grits. Add ½ loaf velveeta cubed or 1 ½ cups shredded american and stir over low heat until cheese is melted. Spoon the mixture into a well greased 8X8 glass dish and bake at 250 degrees for about 45 minutes or until firm.

Think you for the ideas!!!! Starting mush tomorrow. I am worried about gaining. I have lost 22lbs so far on the liquids. I am looking forward to something besides liquid yogart, soup and fusion fruit and veg drink.

I don't know about everyone else but i am getting tired of the same ol' foods. Here's an alternative to tuna salad. I used to make a tilapia recipe with a cream sauce over it so I decided i would try to make a tilapia salad with it. It was pretty good.

1 frozen tilapia (Baked or cooked in skillet w/ a little EVOO)
1-2 teaspoons of mayo
1/2-3/4 teaspoon of dijon mustard
A couple of pinches of dried dill weed

Just flake the fish with a fork and add all other ingredient and mix together. Add salt and pepper if desired.

Chicken & turnips were NOT on my mushies food list???

Now, cheese grits is something I can relate to. Grits was a staple for me. I actually had that for lunch today!

Mushie Tuna Casserole

2 small cans tuna, drained well
1 can peas & carrots, drained
1 can condensed broccoli cheddar soup
1/4 cup mayo
2 eggs
salt & pepper to taste (go easy on the salt)
1/2 cup cheeze it crackers, finely crushed (optional)

Mix tuna, soup, mayo, eggs, peas & carrots, S & P. Pour into a casserole dish and bake @ 375 for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and sprinkle crackers on top and bake 10 more minutes.

I am getting tired of tuna salad so i was trying to think of more inventive ways to use tuna. I made it for dinner tonight and it was sooo good.

Hey all,

I'm fairly new at all this so please bare with me :) I'm going to start the next eating stage on Monday. But before I go any further, let me tell you the diet my doc currently has me on. Of course, we start w/ the liquid diet. I hear of many people being put on a clear liquid diet for the first 10ish days, such wasn't my case. Included in his list are things like low fat yogurt and low fat milk...in addition to broth and protein shakes (which I'm ashamed to admit I did not do...*yuck*). Next (10 days post op) he has me on soft foods, which include things like oatmeal, soft scrambled eggs and cottage cheese. Stupid question, but will I be in what everyone calls the mushy stage? The reason I ask is 1)I often hear of stage two being pureed foods and 2)because I see recipes for [delicious] things like crab cakes and baked potatoes and it seems a little too good to be true....that my stomach may not be ready for this. Don't get me wrong, I want nothing more than to have me some crab cakes on Monday, I just want to make sure I'm getting it right. If he says I can have oatmeal, soft scrambled eggs and cottage cheese, is it safe to say that I will officially be in the Mushies stage? I'm looking forward to hearing "yes" for an answer because I canNOT wait to use the recipes I've found so far in this wonderful forum...

Please help the newbie...

Kele Kana, I wish I weren't so tired, I'd get into this a little more, I have in the past but couldn't find my post..... Yes, mushy is after full liquids and generally , by my understanding , is anything you don't have to chew! puree is mushy, the above "mushy tuna casserol with canned peas and carrots only drained I don't think should be "mushy"( unless you are then putting it in the mini chopper) so you need to be carefull! you should be hooked up with a nutritionish with what ever program you are on. She/he could and should be giving you more complete info on this. mean while I'll try to find what I previously wrote and redirect, Enjoy the new phase! I did!

Thank you! I have a nutritionist, but the sheets he had w/ his advice are a little different than what I've been reading, so I wanted to clarify. I very well could've called him, but before I found this forum I've been calling them with ALL of my questions! Haha! They're awesome people; as sweet as can be, but they deserve a break from me :) Thanks for your help!!

Hmmm...anything I don't have to chew...I don't have to chew sushi...do I? :wacko: =P
