City: Pocatello State: Idaho | cheesy black bean burgers
One 15 1/2 oz can black beans, drained and rinsed
1 lb. lean ground beef(90% or higher) or ground turkey breast
1 large egg, beaten
1 cup shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese
1/3 cup seasoned bread crumbs
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
Preheat grill to medium. Place the beans in a large bowl and mash with the back of a large spoon until smooth but still a bit chunky. Add the beef, egg, cheese, bread crumbs and garlic powder and mix until well combined. Divide the beef mixture and shape into 8 patties. Place the patties on the grill and cook until no longer pink inside and an instant read thermometer registers at least 160 degrees F., about 4 minutes each side. Top with shredded lettuce and your favorite salso and enjoy!!
Each patty
200 calories
21 g. protein
8 g fat
11 g carb
8 g fiber
Again I got this recipe from the New U Clinic in Idaho Falls, Idaho where I go to talk with fill R.N., dietitician, and exercise physiologist.
I have not tried it, but it does sound good.

I don't eat hamburger, actually... I don't eat a lot of meat. Any suggestions on what to substitute for meat? Would veggies be a possibility? I exchange veggies for hamburger in chili recipes and nobody notices a difference. (Amazing, I know)

Thanks! I love it too! One day, though, I am going to be proud to stand on that scale the right way!!! How exciting to think of it!

What can I throw in my breadcrumbs to season them. I am way to cheap to go buy a new can of them since I still have a full one here.

These sound great......since my surgery, I LOVE beans. I liked them before but now they are like my fave thing to eat. I eat them probably 4 or 5 times a week and I'm always looking for a new way to cook them. Thanks!!!
