I don't eat white starch at all but I wanted to tell you in case you hadn't seen them that there are low carb tortillas. When I want bread which isn't very often, I use those. I usually grill them with chicken or tuna. My surgeon told me that if I want bread to be sure and toast it. You have done a fabulous job and since you are under goal I can understand why you would be wanting to add the bread back in, I just don't miss it and decided it isn't for me anymore.

i can do bread OK if it's sliced thin & toasted.
i prefer whole wheat over white, but have had sourdough /italian bread here - there.
another alternative is, i make wraps using "flatout wraps" (have southwest chipotle right now).
i cut them in half they are really big, but each one is 140cal & 7g protein, very flavorful.

I can't eat bread unless it's toasted. Too soft, I guess, so it makes a sticky lump.
I use tostada "shells", which are thin flat corn tortillas, unsalted sometimes. Like I can crush part of one to top a salad, garnish some tortilla soup, or as the base for a tostada for dinner.
My newest fave is the new Special K Crackers. They just hit the market in the last month or so. I've seen two flavors. 17 crackers = 90 calories; 24 = 120. These are whole grain, crispy crackers and I really like them.

I'm still too early to try out bread yet but I can tell you that the high fiber wheat thins are fantastic!!! They are really tasty and have lots of fiber (hard to get sometimes with the limited fruits and veggies I can have right now). I have tried the garden veggie and 5 grain and they're both delicious!!! I can't have tortillas yet either but there are these high fiber, low carb ones that I get at Krogers...I think they're called smart and delicious. The big ones are 12 grams of fiber each and the smaller ones have 8 grams of fiber. Neither is really high on calories and the smaller ones come in multiple flavors (garlic herb is my fav). You've done amazing! I hope my results are that good a year from now =)

Lois | Lois, I don't tolerate bread very well and rarely eat it. But if we're out to dinner and there's something warm and tempting on the table, I may take a small piece... going for something crusty or crunchy. If I really want a sandwich I use the 45 calorie Sara Lee bread.. it's already thin sliced and then my DH will toast it for me and slice it right down the middle to make two slices. No matter what kind of bread I may eat, I always make sure I eat it super slowly and very small bites. Another suggestion, especially with the holiday weekend.. I believe it is Orowheat that has recently started marketing something that sort of looks like a skinny English muffin or hamburger roll. I'm going to get some for a neighborhood picnic we're having on Monday so I can have a hamburger. Sorry I can't think of their official name, but you probably can find them.

I believe they're called Sandwich Thins. My Mom's on Weight Watchers and she loves them. I'm less than 2 weeks post-op, I'm obviously not eating them, but I've got some in the fridge from when Mom stayed w/me after surgery. Wait, let me go verify the name: yep, Sandwich Thins. 100 cals, 5 grams fiber and 5 grams protein per roll. Someday...

I've had two since I heard about them earlier this summer as I don't often eat bread, but nice that they are available when we have a craving for some bread.

I've done that a few times, too.
Lettuce leaves, slice of onion, slice of tomato,
some catsup and a burger!

Wasa Crispbread multigrain is good if you want a cracker-type dealie. I like to use them to dip my tuna salad. Here's the nutritional breakdown, per cracker: Cals 45 Fat 0g Carbs 10g Sugars 0g Fiber 2g Protein 2g
For bread ideas, check out The World According to Eggface. She cooks some great stuff that I wouldn't have thought of. She had RNY, so some of stuff isn't for early Lapbanders.
