| I am newer to this discussion. When first banded I walked every day without missing. Now I average 5 days a week. I am trying to view this as a healthier life style and not totally just weight loss, although weightloss is good too! I started jogging for just 1 minute for every 10 minutes I walk to keep pushing myself. I usually walk about 45 minutes. I am hoping that I will be less wiggly with exercise as well. |

City: Pocatello State: Idaho | I want to run also, but am not able to do it now. I am gonna wait until I am 200 then start. I will already be "heart healthy" and ready to go, it will just be the new exercise method that I will have to endure. I am sure it will not take long to master it though. I always envy people when I see them running. They are always the ones I wish I could be like. Deanna

State: Oregon | I started exercising way before I got my band, in my last attempt to lose weight. I found I can't live without it.
I go to the gym and switch my cardio around depending on what I feel like doing. Sometimes it's 20 min on the eliptical, 20 min on the stair stepper and 20 min on the treadmill alternating between power walking and jogging.
Sometimes I just do 45 min on the eliptical changing the resistance up and down. I read in the body for life book to do one min. intervals each at a different resistance.
Sometimes I do a class that uses weights and aerobicss.
I also do a weight routine with all the different weight machines. I haven't figured out yet how to use the free weights. My gym is horrible as far as having trainers available.
I do all of this 6 days per week. It hasn't seemed to help my weight loss at all. I have a really sucky metabolism. My resting metobolic test proved to my dr. that I have an extremely low metabolism. Even since my last fill where my portions have been dramatically reduced, I haven't lost anything lately. Usually I will go a month and then drop a few. I can only imagine where I would be though, without exercise.

State: Texas | I really appreciate everything yall have posted about your exercise routines. I'm a new bandster but am convinced from reading the stories of people who have lost 100+ lbs that the majority of them have done it with exercise and the band helps with cutting down on food so the loss can continue. Increasing muscle mass will increase the basal metabolic rate so it works for you on so many levels to exercise.
I go to the gym 6 days a week and at this point am doing primarily cardio. In about another month, I'm going to get a trainer and start on the weights. I do 30 minutes eliptical (and OMG I didn't know I could sweat like this!) then 15 on the treadmill to cool down. I love the eliptical cause it doesn't hurt any of my joints.
Ideally I want to become a runner but think I need to lose about 60-70 lbs before I try it. I'm going to focus on getting my CV system in top shape by increasing resistance on the eliptical and varying the routine I do on the machine.
I was worried that it could be harmful to exercise daily that you need some breaks - it looks like many of you are successful with daily exercise which is very encouraging
thanks to yall who have had success in posting what has worked for you- its an inspiration and allows me to ignore a lot of the negative stuff on this board

Good for you! Getting to the gym like that! I love the elyptical machine too. I could marry it, I love it so much.
It's my opinion that when you are doing strength training you need to give your muscles time off between working them. So if you did all over weights, you wouldn't do that everyday. But if you break the body up into upper/lower for example and only did one routine on day one and the other on day two, you'd be fine.
As for cardio, if you've got the time everyday then hit it!
I have to say I am a 5 to 6 times a week exerciser. I almost always take at least one day off. I've gone upwards of 10 days without a break and then really felt like I "needed" one.
Good Lucky,
Juli

Susannah | I exercise 6 days a week - I am following the Body For Life plan and doing the Body for life 12 week challenge ( Body-for-LIFE). The program calls for 3 days weight lifting, 3 days cardio. I added a couple more cardio session to mine.

| I'm Encouraged Hey gang.
I am enjoying this thread. I have yet to be banded, 7/25 is the big day. I know the key to this is incorporating exercise. It is so obvious when comparing those who do and those who don't. I am already planning what I'm going to do. Prior to my sciatica/knee problem, I was working out 5 days a week. I would do 2 miles a day. That was very good for me. I felt like I wanted to run, but my body wouldn't and couldn't handle running, so I did what I could.
I admit that I'm an overachiever in every other aspect of my life, so it's always been beyond frustrating that I couldn't get a grip on my wt...but watch out now. With my band and consistent exercise (and I don't mean the la-de-da strolls, either), I know that I will blow this outta the water. Ya'll have confirmed my thoughts and feelings.
All of you are so encouraging. I wish you all the best!!!

| There are some days I workout 6 times but for the most part I workout two to three times a day.
Morning bike ride 15min heart rate 100
morning break at work 15 min walk around the block
As soon as I leave work walk 4 miles in an hour the head to the gym for free weights.
Night time at home watching tv 30min 60min or 90min stationary cycle.
Weekends either long bicycle ride or kayaking.
Some days absolutely nothing.
Just completed week 1 of couch to 5k today!! Cool Running :: The Couch-to-5K Running Plan

City: Pocatello State: Idaho | AWESOME JC!!!! I am jealous...I wanna runnnnnnnnnnnnn!!! I don't think I ever will though, my DH has bad knees, with several knee surgeries, do he wouldn't be able to do it with me, and he is my exercise coach!!!
Chimboree...it is soooooooo nice to see someone actually get "it" before being banded. I knew I was going to change my life with exercise because I have done it before years ago. But I think soooo many people just expect this band to come alive inside of them and do all this work for them and they won't have to do a thing.....wish everyone would realize it is still a lot of hard work on the banders part. You are awesome and inspirational. If you need to be accountable to someone for your exercise....you can be to me!!!! If you need to talk about it....you can talk away all you want...
Everyone who exercises ROCKS!!! Keep up the good work and remember how sexy, lean and mean you are gonna be at the end of the weight loss journey!!! Deanna

Just a thought!
