I'm looking into joining the YMCA. Right now I'm a member of the gym, but there aren't a lot of bells and whistles. I'm paying around $75.00 a month for my membership and my husband's. I can say I am bored with it. There is no daycare, no pool, no extras.
I was looking at the local YMCA. I know they have things for the kids to do. I really want to put my kids into swimming lessons. I can swim like a fish, and they are learning, but I don't have much confidence in their ability right now and still get scared when they get into the pool at my parent's house (we don't have a pool). Is anyone out there a member of the Y?
I used to love to play racketball and would love to be able to swim and have a place for the whole family to go.

Hey girl! I am a member at the Y. We don't have the family package right now, it's just me. My son goes to child watch ($10 a month) there while I work out. I love it there!
I paid the whole year in full...I think was around $425.00 just for me. A while back my whole family were members (me, DH, and DS) and I think we paid $48.00 a month. I was the only one using it, so we decided not to do the family package this time.
There are sooo many things to do there. I usually just stick to the gym, but they have lots of things for kids to do. When my son gets older, I'm sure we will get a family package again so he can be envolved with sports there.

Cool! I went by at lunch today and picked up some information. I'm pretty sure we're joining up. The cost will be aroung $50.00 for family (with DH's corporate discount). I love to swim and am looking forward to that. They have racquetball too! - BONUS...I haven't played racquetball in a long time, but used to play a lot. DH loves to play too. Hopefully I can get him involved. I think the kids will enjoy it. There are swim lessons this summer as well as gymastics and dance that I think they'll enjoy. My eldest DD wanted to take karate at one time. She'll be 8 soon, so we may look into that this fall.
I'm excited! I want to go tonight and join - I get excited and a little too eager sometimes. I'm going to walk at Darton (which is on the same road) tonight. I may stop by and take care of the paperwork and schedule the inital consult/tours and the works for tomorrow with DH and DDs.
They will be opening the Lee County Branch in August. That'll be even closer to home. The Albany branch is convenient from work though.

We now live at the Y. I have a 4 year old (he is in swim lessons, soccer, ballet and itsy bitsy fun sports) and an 18 month old (she is in swim lessons) all part of the monthly cost. My wife and I lift and do cardio and use the sitting service. Have not felt fit enough to try any classes.

If I lived in Albany, I would meet you and we could work out. I do workout with my SIL and my MIL sometimes. If you can get your DH to do with you that would be great. It's much better to have a Workout partner. Quote:

Some of those classes are hard for people who are in shape, can't imagine how someone like me would get through it, lol.

Georgia Girl, I think I will hit a class after I complete 2 cycles of the body for life system I have been on. My stepfather teaches a spinning class, I think I will try that first.

I'm remiss about starting a class. I need to drop another 40 pounds at least - my knees and back probably can't take it. I'm ready to do laps though. I tried spinning at my old gym - it kicked my butt! I didn't think it would be so hard - literally my butt hurt for days and I had a larger seat than most.
We're joining on Thursday - DH and I are going to sign up after work then. GA Girl - if you're ever in town for a fill/shopping, whatever, let me know and we can still meet up! :-)
