I am incredibly slow at losing. Almost 2 years and only 46 pounds - a little more than half way, but my progress creeps at barely a pound a month or less - it is really incredible. At the same time, most everyone is worried about me eating too little. The fact is, I have been a slow loser on every program ever tried (and I tried them ALL, or I would not be here) so I am not surprised. I am REALLY compliant, eat tiny amounts of good fresh foods everyday, use protein drinks, don't crave things, easily quit the diet drinks, carbonated anything, don't eat much sugar, etc., etc. I see my Dr. regularly, have been loosened a little, tightened a little, not a big difference either way. I have seen my band on a Flourescope and can see how it sits and see the medicine trickle down . . . I am so tight at the moment I really have to work at eating correctly, drinking water, etc. People ask me if it is worth it, and I would say yes, because I hadn't been able to lose ANYTHING for a number of years on ANY program. Husband had really given up after seeing me try and try, so he is really pleased now. (He has NO problem with weight) (When I slide in the car and easily buckle up over a greatly reduced tummy, that is good!) But sometimes when I get heartburn and have to sleep elevated (I haven't had heartburn since I was pregnant 40 years ago) or am stuck for 8 hours and miserable because I forgot and took a bite after 8:00 pm, or sometimes I just get touchy and almost anything I eat is wrong and I have to do liquids for a day or two, I think this is the hardest thing I have ever done. It does isolate me from friends and gala eating and has created a difficulty with food fixing/eating with my husband. First, it is difficult to imagine what he might like, since my food tastes and possibilities have changed so much. And whatever I fix, he has to eat for a couple of days since I just don't know how to cook for one only. He gets in so late I can't eat then, so I have to cook for him stuff I can't even have a bite of, and I like to set a nice table for him, but then I don't feel like sitting there with him and visit and not eat. He is uncomfortable eating without me also and at first lost a lot of weight, but now he has evened out. We just haven't figured out how to make both of us happy about that.
I just wanted to see if there is anyone with a similar situation. One honest reason I don't post much is that I don't want to discourage others. Others seem to be having a much easier time than me. I struggle every day. I am looking much better. A size 16 person @ over 5'6" with a big frame is not really fat anymore, and I have lost fat in the face, shoulders, waist, hips and everywhere. There are 20 things I can be happy about . . like no more serious snoring! Clothes loose. Blood pressure better. Can run up the escalator and not feel like I am going to pass out before I catch the Bus! Can put on socks and pantyhose and do my own pedicures . . . don't pant and get out of breath so much. Probably have added years to my life, and at my stage - that is important to me. Gotta see those great-grandchildren coming up and seeing my own kids and grandkids mature into life . . .
Life is good if it is not easy. Anyone out there can relate? Or am I a bird of a different feather?

There are many like you here, I believe they call themselves Turtles. But really I wouldnt say you are losing that slow....We had surgery around the same time. You've lost 46 pounds and I've lost 93....but I needed to lose around 150 pounds, where as you have less than 100. I guess i could be considered a Turtle too...but I dont think so. And you are SO right about losing 46 pounds still being a huge deal, like you said, you are feeling so much better and have added years to your life.

Sunnyone,
In the "LAP-BAND® Support" area, there is a stickied thread called "Slow Losers Unite!". It's the turtle threat :). Come comiserate with us!
46 lbs is great, but I definately understand the desire to lose faster.

I too am a slow loser. It has been only a year and a half and I have only lost 45 lbs. I carry my weight well and I do notice the inches and my clothes fit better on me and certain things that were too tight when I began are too big now wich I love, but why is the weight not coming off. I think I need to do some serious reconsidering of what I eat and how often I think maybe my metabolism has slowed down because I eat too little. So starting tomorrow I will write down everything I eat and drink 64 oz of water or more a day and try to exercise 3-5 times a week and see if that will budge the scales at the end of this month. Wish me luck:nervous

Hi Tamiko,
How much fill do you have currently??? That can make a big difference as well as what you mentioned, taking in too few calories. I am guilty of that one too. I notice that when I mix up my diet (800 cal one day...1300 the next) as well as my exercise regimen I USUALLY can bust out of a weight loss rut. Usually... Good luck to you!!!

I am trying, I just started school again and I will be in class from 8:00 am to 12:30pm not to mention I work from 10 pm to 6 am I have to try to figure out a meal plan of when to eat because soon as I get home from school I go straight to sleep and wake up at about 6 or 7 pm depends on how tired I am. I will have this schedule until June this time next year so i have to do something to continue to lose weight. The only days I have off from school is Friday and I don't have neither Saturday and Sunday. Does anyone else have a schedule like this and if they do how do they adjust and maintain at losing weight. :help:

Slow loser here! I even follow the rules and excercise 3-5 times a week with still only a 33lb loss after being banded one year. Nope its not muscle gain either.

I have a feeling that I'm going to be a slow loser. I think I'm down about 1/2 lb since my last weigh in. My metabolism is sluggish and yes, I need to increase the exercise. Count me in on this thread.

I was banded in March and still haven't hit 30 pounds yet. It amazes me with the people that in about the same amount of time have lost twice that. I know I need to exercise more, but my sever arthritis makes it difficult. I try what I can, but could probably use a lot more.

Thank you for this thread, I too am a slow loser, I have been banded for 6 mos and have lost 42#'s. I did not feel restriction until my third fill. I have just started walking every morning for 45 mins to 1 hour - keep your fingers crossed that will help the scale go down.

Donna, you are doing great. The exercise is just about ruining my LAP-BAND® experience. I just don't seem to be motivated. I go to the gym and I only do 10 minutes of cardio. I am going to try going to the beginning (all level) classes starting Wednesdsay. My first is Pilates. I need to make a goal poster. Right now I can't see beyond 269 lbs. Its hard but I need some serious visuals. Now!

:heh: I am very discouraged today I had not weighed for 2 1/2 weeks, last time I weighed I lost 5 lbs in a week after a fill, I still am eating half of the food I used to eat, I am having a little trouble with water drinking half the amount 35oz instead of 64oz, BUT I THOUGHT I WOULD BE DOWN AT LEAST ANOTHER 4LBS! (NOT!!!), I was banded on 4/28/06, I lost 10lbs in 2 weeks, another 3lbs in 3 weeks, and then 5lbs in 1 week, I have had 2 fills, and felt nothing with the first fill, very tight the second fill for about 2 weeks and then I could eat again and never felt full. I am scheduled for another fill 7/7/06. But I feel like I should at least have lost another 3lbs I am 52 and I know due to my age I think the weight loss is slower! I hope this procedure will work, maybe I am expecting too much. I hope someone will respond! I do some exercise but have metal and screws in a leg and it makes it hard to run, but I am trying! Any advise please let me know! I am grateful for this sight, it has helped me a great deal! thanks to all who have shared their feelings it is most appreciated !!!

Hi Nyssa, A couple of questions for you 1. How many calories a day are you intaking. You want to make sure you are consuming enough so you body isn't in starvation mode. If you feel you are eating too little try and boost your metabolism by eating a little more of the good foods for a few days then go back to regular diet. 2. Exercise. Can you walk or do a treadmill. This should help with the weight loss. Unfortunately, that is key. You sound like me where you go for a little bit, lose, then stop or gain. We have bad metabolism so the exercise is way more important to us. Good luck. I'm no expert, I'm just speaking from experience when I was thin from years ago.
