Quessstiiooonn!

:help: If your insurance company says nothing about a supervised diet, and just says to send in medical records for review/approval? Is that all I have to do?

I would look over my policy very closely, and if I didn't have it available, I would ask that a copy of the coverage requirements be sent to me. Otherwise, they can deny you without you knowing exactly WHY. I would think it would be better to be very prepared than having to fight for it after a denial.
Do your homework now!!! Good Luck!!

I would definitely get a copy of the specific criteria your insurance requires in order for the surgery to be medically necessary. And when you call the insurance company be sure to make a note of the date and who you talked to in case you have to fight them later. My insurance wanted a medically supervised diet for at least 6 months. I had been doing that loosely for over 2 years with my primary care doc. All I did was send in my records that suggested I eat low carb or that we talked about weight loss and prayed that they would accept it. Luckily, that was all that was needed as far as the diet. I have Aetna, but I'm sure that all insurances are different so make sure you get eveything (and then some) together before you submit it to your insurance. Good luck!

My ins company never asked for anything regarding a supervised diet or any other documentation proving I tried other weight loss methods in the past.
To be on the safe side, call your ins co. and ask them to send you the requirements. Better to be prepared. Good luck

Hi Threebeauties! It's Vanaz again! I found your message!!!! We are about the same weight and same weight loss goals. You are doing great!! I am going thru several medical tests right now and if all goes well I will hope to have my first visit in January..."hope"....Thanks again for your help! Vanaz

Thank you all for responding. It seems like I am on the right path in getting insurance clarification before I move forward. I am trying to cover every possible problem in advance....no guarantee...progress not perfection.....
