Letter To Insurance

Hi Everyone.

I am going thru all of the insurance/surgeon's requirements, and would like to include a letter to the insurance company telling them why I *NEED* this surgery.

My BMI is 47 and I have no co-morbities, but I would like to write a letter to illustrate other problems I've had that they do not consider co-morbidities (Amerihealth Insurance). The letter is not necessary, but I would like to think that maybe a personal touch would get me the approval I am hoping for.

So have you written a letter? Do you have a copy or website that I could reference? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in Advance.

Can you give us more info....does your insurance cover the procedure? Do you meet the requirements? I think that makes alot of difference in your letter writing....I know if it is excluded, it is excluded, writing won't help. If you borderline meet requirements, I am sure it will help....

Call the "800" number on the back of your insurance card and ask if code 43770 (it is universal for all insurances) is covered. If it is, ask them to send you the requirements for approval. This is what you should address in your letter.

Hi I sent a letter with my things and was excepted. I am not sure if it was the letter or it helped or if they were going to give it to me anyway. I purchased a book, called . They have a mock letter in the back of the book. Sort of a guide line. My letter I mentioned that I was adopted, so I have no medical history info. I was very lucky to be healthy with no co-morbities that THEY recognize. I underlined "THEY". Then I listed the problems that I have that, even though they don't recognize it, the National Health Institute does, ie gallbladder removal, acid reflux, pitting edema in my lower legs. I have also had kneee surgery on both of my knees and a quote from my surgeon telling me that if I didn't lose weight I would always have knee problems and may have to have knee surgery again. (Of course he also said I needed to change jobs, but they didn't need to know that part.) Plus I also tried to list some factual stuff like weight loss surgery is 90% more effective to losing weight and keeping it off then diet and exercise or prescription medication. I went to the internet and copied every thing that I could about weight loss surgery and just composed a letter. And at the end I put "I don't want to be worse before I can get better, and Please help me become the healthier person that I know I can be." I know suck up. But I didn't want to sound to beggee either. Hope this helps. Susan
