Is it a slip or just swollen?

PLEASE HELP~!!!!!!

I was banded Aug 2007. I have lost 65 pounds and am feeling great! BUT, I had a small problem.

I've had 2 fills and 1 unfill. After losing the last 15 pounds, I am due for another fill. So, I scheduled my fill apt for May 6th, in Mexico. About a week ago, I took a bite of my son's salami sandwich. I haven't had a bite of a sandwich in 8 months~What was I thinking? DUH! I didn't even chew it very well, swallowed it and it got stuck! About 30 minutes later, I was puking.

I felt okay after throwing up. Since then, I have had trouble eating solids. I am thinking either my stoma is swollen or my band slipped from vomitting. I'm not sure. The restriction and ability to eat solids vary day to day. And sometimes, meal to meal. Today I had 2 cups of soup and a cup of mashed potatoes.

I am thinking I should stick with liquids and mushies until my appointment on May 6th. I am really scared that my band is slipped. I was a cash patient and don't have any money for another surgery.

I REALLY NEED SOME ADVICE!!!!! Thanks.

I wouldn't be worried so much yet. I doubt your band slipped from that one incident. I do think its a good idea to go easy on the solids until your appointment. Good luck!

Does your doctor do fluoroscopy with your fills? He should be able to tell if you have a slip if he does.

I would say you need to stick with liquids at least a few days, but I also think that if you are going for a fill, you need to eat solid foods before hand so you know how tight you are before you go and get tighter. Hope that makes sense.

I too have had some recent issues, I was banded 08/07/07 and I'm down 91lbs I have had 3 fills and 1 unfill which was back in 10/07. But since my last fill which was in 03/08 I have some more than usual PB and unable to eat a lot of foods, pretty much stay away from meats and just stick with soups and mushy foods, I was schedule for a fill this past week but I cancelled the appointment since I have had problems having certain foods go down. But one day I can eat something and the next I can't I have thrown up lately I mean it's just solid coming back up but I know I sometimes eat it to fast. But should I be concerned about slipage? I have a lot tummy rumbling, but no problems drinking the protein shakes or eating a protein bar and cottage cheese it's the solid foods? I haven't posted alot since joining and I too just wondering If I should be more concerned, I too am a self pay and god I hate to have it removed, I still want to lost another 60lbs. Any advice is appreciated too and willing to support anyone else going through the same thing.

THis is crazy! We are having the same issues, the same stats, I was banded in 7/07 and started at 230 and now am 170 ish. Wow! I had a fill about a month ago and things were fine, I was tight but okay. I swallowed a pill and it got stuck and it hurtttt. I vomited (first time ever) and then went on to have pbing/slime for the next evening and day. I was worried about slippage and was told to take it easy and do liquieds. Well that was 8 days ago and today I am really struggling, yesterday was great, eat whole foods no prob, today can not get soup down and now I am having bad heart burn. I am worried, but glad I found your post.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one, it's so frustrating somedays when one day I can eat something and the next day I can't and then having to explain to my son or husband why the food isn't staying down. My son asked me today mom when are you going to be able to eat regular food again, being I don't eat dinner with him and was wondering when I would. I told him that I can always sit and have my food with him but mommy can't eat the same foods anymore. But sometimes it's really frustrating. I ate some crab salad yesterday and was fine, just had some tonight and nope didn't stay down. I'm happy with my weight loss but not being to eat solids is getting to me today.

God Bless your Heart. My children have not noticed my lack of food intake, surprising, LOL. I too am very happy with the weight loss but some days are harder than others, yesterday was hard, I will just get angry, I couldn't even get icecream down yesterday. Because of the heartburn I am going in for an unfill. I am so reluctant though. I am afraid that after allergy season and my TOM it will be not tight enough and then I have to truck back to the office and have a fill. It is frustrating and I wonder what the nurses think of me. I feel so wishy washy. I think of all things I miss raw veggies most. Good Luck

I ended up being swollen for a week. Even had to cancel my fill apt.

many times when i am strughling i feel as like i should of had bypass, but when i stop and think about it i know i made the wright choise, no cut and stapling off my insides, and never being able to eat carbs or sugar again, would just kill me, i hear the dummping syndrome is horable and i dont think i would ever want to deal with that, the pbing and slime is bad enuff, just hang in there and all will be well

Just an update. They did unfill me and I took a week break and then had another fill, I will call today and schedule another fill. I hate driving back and forth but i hate not having any restriction more. I just reread all of our post and it is funny how we forget our feelings and switch it all around...hmmm. Any I saw you have 2.6 in your band, she put 2 in my band and I have no restriction (yes I have taken advantage of it) 2.6 is when I was having problems so I will ask for 2.4 and hopefully that will be a good spot. I will keep you posted.

Glad to hear your doing good and took the break for a week. I have been doing better, but staying away from basically all solid foods and I'm not having as many issues except for this past weekend, which now I'm curious if anyone else has had more pbing issues when you go to cold weather, I live in Phoenix and this is the second time this is happened to me when I've gone somewhere cold, like 30 degree weather, that like two bites of chili come back up, for memorial was up north in cold weather and had some chicken tortilla soup and after 2 bites it came back up, came home on monday to 80 degree weather ate the soup 1/2 cup no problem, so just curious if the cold weather makes a difference. Sounds weird I know, sometimes I wonder if it's my mind playing tricks on me.

I had a similar situation. I ate too fast a few times and actually vomitting. Then I was really really sore in the area of the band. And could not get heavy solid foods (like chicken) down without hurting. I went on liquids for a day and it cleared up. Now I'm intentionally eating much slower and not eating as much. I think I just needed a rest. Has anyone experienced this? (I think when it's swollen down there you can't eat as much)

I'm so glad I found this thread. I have been banded for a year and a half (not a newbie at all), and am at goal - really! My last fill was in Jan 2008, which put me to 2.4 cc. I lost about 20 pounds since that fill and thought everything was fine. About 4 days ago I woke up with a terrible acid feeling in my throat. Yes, I did eat some Fritos the night before, but not too many because I can't.

Since then I can drink fluids like water, Slimfast, even yogurt. But solids hurt - right at the band. This is a different type of pain from being restricted or stuck. I can eat only 3 bites of soft foods and then feel the pain.

I called the doctor today and was told this is probably pouch dilation. I was told to stay on strict liquid diet for 2 days, and if not better by Friday (day after tomorrow) come in for deflate.

I'm at goal (even a bit less) so I am not terribly concerned about losing some fill. I'm more worried that this is something worse than dilation.

I'll keep you posted.

I hope to hear how the rest of your situations resolve.

Terry
