help...non healing port incision

Please give any advice. I was banded on April 3. Four weeks later a seroma formed under my port incision. It began to drain, As it did that a small hole formed. Went to general Doctor, he opened it on up so it could begin to heal from the inside out. Well....Its been 4 more weeks. Not only is the wound still open but it is traking toward my port. They are calling it a non-healing wound. There doesnt seem to be infection right now but I am scared. Dr. Rumbaut, in Mexico did my surgery so I am having to find a Dr here in GA. that specializes in Bariatrics. Anyone who has experienced this please post and share your story with me.

Sorry to hear about your problem.
My port incision took alot longer to heal, and when it looked like it was healed, it openned up slightly and continued to drain for awhile. It took a good 4-5 weeks. As i understand it, because they don't use drains there is always drainage that will occur. Good luck

I have the same problem. Mine opened within 2 weeks of surgery and I got infection a couple weeks later. about 3weeks ago they removed my port and I now have an open wound that needs to heal. I am using a wound vac. I have infection again and the surgeon wants to try more surgery but I want to try more and different antibiotics since they had to stop mine prmaturely due to a raction to them. If I were you I would find someone right away if you are tracking. Tracks are the fhardest to heal and if the top wound closes before the track you will have lots more problems. I have atrack as well. He says they can put the port back in when things heal up. I had surgery Apr 11. You really should have to have a bariatric surgeon but surely a hospital in your area can give you the name(s) of surgeons in your area. Please don't wait. It will only get worse left alone. Are you seeing a PCP now? He should be able to connect you but lots of docs don't want to take on patients who went to mexico so keep looking til you find someone.
wishing you the best.

thanks for the encouragment losing. it sounds like yours is a bit more progressed than mine. so far there is no sign of infection......odor, puss. i will see Dr. Ponce in Dalton Ga on Monday. until then i am staying on antibiotics. when I get to him he will most likely open it up a little more and get all the dead tissue out. its called debreedinghe wound, and then put it all back together. i am hopeing for the best. good luck as well with your infection. it is very discouraging i know....not to mention scary. Tori

Ask your doctor before doing it, but you can buy "Pure Vitamin E" cream from anywhere really (any store that sells cosmetics.. like walgreens, walmart, etc).. whenever I have a wound, that stuff is like miracle for getting your skin to heal. But make sure your doctor says it's ok to put it in there!

Mine got infected about..well close to the month after surgery. And I had a feeling it would get infected from the moment I got out of surgery. Just that "ouch that doesn't look good" He opened mine up to look it it and said it wasn't deep just a skin infection. Then gave me meds and in about 2 weeks I was fine. Although that area seems to get dried and I have to use cream. I had a back operation when I was 14 and I had one then that didnt heal. I had to have months of visiting nurses to come and "pack me in" with stuff. Now that was a bitch.
