airplane flights

Has anyone ever heard of cmplications involved
with airplane flights. Someone recently told me of
someone they knew that went on a flight and the
diffrence in air pressure caused severe pain from
restriction. Has any one ever heard of such problems?
I will ask my doctor on my next fill visit.

I've never heard of it, I had my surgery in Monterrey, Mx and have had both fills done there...I flew down and back all three times and have not had any problems nor have I notice more restriction on the plane.
Let us know what your Doc. says.

Just returned from vacation on June 25, 2006, no problems at all. I also asked my doctor before going and he stated no such thing can happen because the band is not impacted by air pressure.

I fly almost weekly. I've never had 'severe' pain at all, I have, however, experienced what seemed to be a tightening of my band on different occasions. Nothing too terrible. My advice.. be careful with the nuts.

I was banded 3 days ago and the first two days were miserable because of all the gas inside. I left Mexico in pain, but when the plane started to climb in the air my air started escaping (burping and otherwise) and felt alot better by the time I got back to Chicago!
My doctor back home said the pressure affected the gas in my tummy, not the band. Yeah!

When I fly I get extra tight for a day or so. I wouldn't say I have any pain tho.

My doc said that getting tighter restriction from flying is physically impossible.

LOL, like I said.. just watch out for the nuts.. :)

This may be true, however, a good experiment to watch is this. Take a water bottle that's been opened, but still has some water in it on the plane with you and just observe it when you take off and when you land. Now, unlike some folks here, I'm not mathematician, or rocket scientist but I can see contraction and expansion when it happens. I have also had blood clots from flying, so I'm pretty certain our bodies undergo some pretty interesting things while flying.

I have also heard of people who live up in the mountains discussing how much tighter their bands get at home, versus while they are in the city and sea level. Interesting concept, but they swear it is so..YMMV:)
