| Advanced Platform Lap Band | | I am getting banded in Toronto in 7 weeks. They will be using a new LAP-BAND® Inamed or Allergan AP (advanced platform). They started using this new one in November. Anybody out there have this one yet? Apparently it is available only in Canada right now - FDA in the US still has to approve but will happen soon there too. Anyone know the differences between that one and the old one? Very curious to know more about this band. |

Further to my last post, I was in error in saying that the new AP band is not approved yet in the US. They in fact, had FDA approval and the clinic Toronto used that as their gold standard for its use in Canada. Anyone anywhere heard of this new band and how it is working? |

Priscilla, maybe if you post this question in the general LAP-BAND® question forum, you will get more responses, if it is only been used since November in Canada, i don't think any of us would have it, as the majority of us have been banded prior to November. Good luck in your quest.

Thanks to all who responded to my question about the AP band. Hopefully, I will get even more responses-IrishMist suggested I post this question on General LAP-BAND® Questions, so I will. Thanks IrishM. To the just-banded person - good luck - I'm so glad to hear you are happy so soon out of surgery. This is a great forum - lots of good info on it and fun people too! |

Priscilla I know that a few of the Australians on the board have AP bands too. Good luck with your surgery!

Dr. C. installed the new band in me at the end of November. I am still a few weeks away from my first fill, so I can't tell you about how it works with a fill, but it is working fine for me without one. This new band also comes in two sizes, and I apparently have the smaller one. Doctor Cobourn is using this band all the time now.

I am scheduled with a date with Dr. C on Valentine's day. It is nice to know that I will be getting something that is cutting edge.

Hery Gaf - good luck - I'll be banded about a week before you. We'll compare notes. Your comment about the "cutting edge" kind of made me laugh just because it is in the context of having surgery. HeeHee:faint:
Nancy - congratulations on your new life with the LAP-BAND®, keep us posted since all info helps. |

I was going to use the term bleeding edge which I use all the time, but thought better of it in the surgery context.
As for having your surgery a week before me, are you on Feb 7 then? That is what I love about this site. It is so nice to have a resource of people who not only have had the same procedure, but have also had the same Dr.
It is also nice to have people who understand. I have only told my wife, parents, wife's parents and my boss who is also considering the procedure and who needs to sign the form for the time off.

Yes Gaf, it is Feb 7. Have only told my husband. Other family members don't know about about this type of surgery and I don't want them stressed over it. Once I start losing weight I will explain it to them. Got to protect them that loves ya! Good luck and we will keep in touch I'm sure through this wonderful way of communicating and getting and giving support.

I have limited the number of people I am telling at this point so I dont have to do so much explaning. To have the surgery is a personal decision that I do not have to justify to anyone, & it is not there business.
I guess that you & I will be starting the Optifast the same day (assuming you are doing two weeks), as I have to do 3 weeks, where most people only have to do two. I am scheduled to start that on Jan. 24.

Gaffer,
I an scheduled for Feb 14th. What are the conditions of your Optifast pre-diet? Did they give you the "this much -this often" talk yet? I have not yet been given the standards for the liquid diet. I don't think they will give them to me until my visit in Jan 2007.
Good luck
Keep in touch
