taking medication post op

High everyone,
I was wondering how do you get on taking prescribed tablets when your on the fluid only part of the diet? I take daily glucosamine and fish oil tablets along with prescribed meds.
Some of these pills are like horse pills.

I have 10 weeks till my band

Linda,

You may have to initially crush or cut your tablets. The fish oil is best left out for the first week, until some of the swelling has subsided.

I have a pill splitter and was able to take the glucosamine cut into 4.

Re: taking medication post op

hello

i have the same issue with taking medication because i have diabetic but i asked a pharmacy if i could crush the medication and they said it would be fine. i also take a liquid vitamin supplement with added iron which is flavoured so no problems there and i also take a liquid fish oil which you can get from the chemist but i take a high strengh one and only need to take 1.25ml per day so if you do get the liquid one search around for the best one, some that i saw you had to take about 15ml per day, yuck, if you want the name of the liquid fish oil or vitamins i take i can provide you with this info. my dietician recommended to take these and the brands also

Good question. I have been wondering about and I'm needing to call my Dr. I have some that say " Do mNot cut or crush". I need to know what to do.

There are also chewable vitamins that have Omega 3 in them. They are good. The kind I have are made by Lil critters and I bought them at Wal mart. The nutrionist told me about them.

Re: taking medication post op

I bought a pill crusher at walmart for $2.00. I crush the pills and sometimes put the powder in a small glass of warm water. I am 3˝ weeks Post Opt and since have turn to just pouring the powder in my mouth and then drinking some water, then eat a TicTac.

To my good fortune I got a bad bladder infection and my Dr put me on to meds. One twice a day and one 4 times a day (yes 4 times a day). They are capsules so I just open it over my mouth and pour the powder in, drink water eat Tic Tac. I take those also with 4 other pills a day and I hate it. Just be sure to ask the pharmacy if your prescription can be crush. Time release pills and capsules CAN NOT BE CRUSH.

Crushing is not fun but would not keep me from having surgery. It is just a small detail. Now giving up my diet coke that is another story. I miss diet coke!!!! 3 ˝ weeks without one

Re: taking medication post op

hi after finding that you are in atherton, do you come down to cairns if so then i got my liquid vitamins from the chemist warehouse on mcleod street opposite cairns central, they also have the high concentrate of fish oil too and they are the cheapest chemist in cairns, the chemist in atherton should be able to order the items also for you, let me know and i will give you the names of the products i use. i go to atherton every october, feb and june on a saturday to clean the carpets at atherton centrelink so i could probably drop some stuff off to you if you dont come to cairns often. i stock up on the stuff and buy about 10 bottles of vitamins and fish oil because you know what its like to be regional ha ha but just let me know, more than happy to help you
