Drama at high noon

Well almost.

I just had my first fill this afternoon.
4 ml in a large AP band.
I sipped on the cup of water and headed for home, although by the time i got there ( 20 minutes ) my mouth was full of saliva and i couldn,t swollow it.
After a quick phone call i was back at the surgery and he kindly removed 2 ml.
Ah much better.

A very Drama filled evening for me.

A similar thing happened to me this week.

Had my first fill on Monday, 1.5 ml in a 4ml band. Everything seemed fine, I was so excited about "testing it out" to see if I had any/enough restriction.

Anway, on Wednesday a group of us from work went to Fifteen for lunch, (not sure if you'd know of it in the States, Fifteen is a group of restaurants opened by Jamie Oliver where he gives disadvantaged young adults a second chance by recruiting them as apprentice chefs, and the whole process is filmed for a reality tv show)

Anyway, I was sitting in the restaurant with 7 other people from work, and started eating my first piece of chicken since the fill...needless to say I now understand that you aren't exaggerating when you all say chew chew chew chew chew chew chew and chew again!

I ended up in their bathroom (which was very nice by the way!) for about half an hour with such intense pain in my chest and the lovely "sliming" before eventually PBing, I think I've learnt my lesson!

If every cloud has a silver lining, I now know what the warning signs are, and I know that the band is working!!

Oldspark I'm glad you went right back and had some fluid taken out, my surgeon told me the worst thing you can do is wait and see if it gets better, because it won't unless you have some fluid removed

o0o Amy - other than the chicken incident, how was Fifteen? I've been wanting to try it. A coworker called to book us in to the new Jamie Oliver restuarant in melb but it was booked out til MARCH! lol.

Oh .. and yes, chew chew chew! Chicken, I've found, is best served with a dipping sauce as well. Just helps it go down.

*edit* - and Mark - glad the slight unfill helped! From what I've heard, its rare for people with the large band to feel restriction on the first go. Well done to you :) Probably a very good sign of things to come, even tho it was uncomfortable for a while.

Hi Mark - how do you feel now? Glad you got yourself right back to the doc for a part unfill.

Funny how differently we all react - I have the same AP Large band and also had 4ml put in. For the first few days I felt a bit swollen and slightly nauseous like the post-surgery feeling, but no need for an unfill as I could still eat. It feels a bit looser for me today - I ate more than my hubby for lunch! YIKES!

Hi Anna,
I am still waiting for my first fill-hopefully this Sunday at my next review. I am struggling with hunger still but mostly winning the battle. I am hoping that a bit of fill will start the full feeling. I have lost 5kg in 5 weeks, so that's not bad. Have to stop focussing on weight loss and just be happy.

Did you go back on liquids after your fill? I have so many mushy meals in the freezer that I haven't used, I won't mind havig to go backwards occasionally, just to use them up!

Hi Anne,
Yep - I had to have liquid / mushy for the next 3 meals afterwards. I had a few extra as well, as I was feeling pretty swollen for a few days after the fill.
Glad to hear from your other posts that you fill went well. Well done with the weight loss! You are a champion!

Well
I,m now a week down the track after my first fill ( 2ml ) in a 12ml band and although i dont feel any restriction i have noticed ( several times ) that i need to chew my food much more or it,s PB city.
Obviously the opening is much smaller.
Anyway i,m back on the 14th Dec for my next fill.

Mark.:)

I had exactly the same thing...it was awfull I couldnt get comfortable...my dr made the mistake of filling my 4cc band with 4cc on my second fill....I thought I was going to die...kept on vomiting saliva...couldn't keep water down and I was in pain! like you a quick call to the dr and I was back in the clinic after hours to remove some of the fluid...haven't had the same issue again with my 3rd fill. so all is good.
:)

Glad to hear you have settled down a bit with your fill now Mark. Mine feels like it's gone completely - until I try and eat too much in one bite or too quickly. I've been eating more, and getting hungrier than I've been since surgery. I'm due to go for another fill in late Jan - but I think I might try and get in for another fill before Christmas.

Fill report

Hi everyone,
I had 5 ml fill (1st fill in a 10ml band) a week ago. I'm doing ok, no PBs but also not much restriction just me trying hard. I've lost 7kg in 6 weeks. Not brilliant but steady and gone forever! In some ways this is easier than I expected, but in other ways not as successful as I'd hoped. i think I've got used to having a band really well. It is not an issue at all. I have trouble working out when to drink the water. I can actually drink, not skull, water easily but am waiting at least an hour after eating. I too, Anna, am getting hungry quite soon after eating. I can't get a fill till January!
All in all, I'm happy with it all really.:)
