Still waiting for Obama to clarify a lot of his positions. I find it a little curious that for him to be such an magnificent speaker, he has some trouble in debates. I'm curiously waiting to see how this all plays out....but for goodness sake people, let's judge on the policies, not skin color, or "McCain = Bush". Both of those assumptions are wrong.

Can we really fully trust any politician? I've always seen our presidents, especially those in the current era to be figure heads anyway. There is never just one person running the White House or our Country.

From what I'm to assume my State will aways vote democratic, which I am by the way but I have been known to cross party lines.

It's really difficult to get the straight scoop on anyone in the news. JMO.

Can we even come to a general agreement on these two questions, as a preliminary in our discussion of the coming election:

1) Who was the BEST US president in the last 60 years?
2) Who was the WORST US president in the last 60 years?

My bet is we can not even come to an answer for THOSE questions.

Hmmmm....I'd agree the best may have been FDR. Reagan is kinda close, but Iran-Contra fouled it for him (IMO).

The worst? Jimmy Carter. What a boob....and he still is.

Erikalyn: Where exactly did you get all that stuff about Obama? I scanned it. It is a load and I mean a LOAD of crap. So much garbage has been floated out on the 'net and it has been debunked over and over. Where have you been??

The Republicans cannot just stick with the actual political issues. Because if they stick with the issues and be honest about what they intend to do, they will lose big time. They have been playing this game for many years. They don't attack a man or woman's stand on the issues, they attack the person. And they don't even attack the person with real facts. They go as far out on a limb with outright lies as they can without everyone shouting them down. They go just far enough so that those who are looking for a reason not to vote for someone will believe what they have circulated in the press and on the 'net. They go just far enough to shock people into believing the bad news without getting serious enough about it to learn the truth.

Well, I gotta admit that in several races, it has worked. I find it horribly disgusting and I do not respect anyone who jumps on that kind of personal attack and either agrees with it or believes it without learning the truth.

We should not put up with those kinds of political tactics. We should do all we can to prove that dishonest personal accusations have no place in our political races. The only way we can seriously give them that message is to get out the vote and drum them out of office!

To be fair, I don't think it's just the republican party, I've seen it in both, sometimes within their own party, the democrats are shooting Hillary now big time, not that I agree with her, but it doesn't look too good for them to trash her now I would think. I mean, ther eis a possibility that Obama may choose her as VP, I sincerely hope not and I don't think he will, but it's still a possibility, so I would say that it's better not to trash her just yet...
You know, it all comes down to republicans not wanting to believe anything bad they hear or that is out there about their candidate and the democrats doing the same thing.... except for a few very calm and very objective people out there, not many here on LBT, we are too passionate.. (Including me!) , otherwise we are all so fired up that we even miss the truth at times, but I think that's only human , we have the two parties fighting for the presidency the two parties don't agree and we the people that are cheering for our party of course don't agree, nobody wants to lose, so we have a big hot mess... anywho, I just think that the negative campaigning , negative propaganda if we want to call it that, has come from both sides not just in this election but pretty much always, it's part of the political game after all...

Erikalyn, the Weekly World News got into politics? I thought Batboy retired?

BJean, you are amazingly articulate and wise. I wish I could express my thoughts on racism against black Americans half as well as you have.

I look forward to casting my vote in November!

I think Jimmy Carter was the only "democrat" who "still had lust in his heart for his wife Roselyn". (sp) That's pretty rare these days or am I wrong????

re: Carter's quote ""still had lust in his heart" I recall the interview. It wasn't about lust for his wife...although that sounds romantic enough.

Saw part an an interview with George Wills last week by Colbert Himself. It was outstanding commentary on our politicians!!! Wish I hadn't been dragged away by unavoidable business. Maybe there is a rerun.

While we can bicker about who does what etc, just as in seeking our Bandster goals, there are many distractions and a LOT a unproductive energy wasted along the way.

US political media is largely unreliable and biased in presentation of what it labels as 'news' ; this is exacerbated by a sad morning not 2 weeks ago that STILL burns me up.

I was trying to get a look at "the ACTUAL morning NEWS" ; GMA had some musician performing in front of their building; Lauer had a pointless story about yet another day in his OWN trip (like that's 'newsworthy'), and then Big Al Roker's story was jumping off some dock into the river!!! I was absolutely mystified about those events and their role in our life and times.

So I mainly stick to cable news, which at times is so rife with advertisements I can literally go cruise the Net for 10 minutes and not miss their lead story....probably about some singer having trouble with the law....or some ball player....

George Wills was asked what the difference between democrats and republicans might be, as he saw it. Shocking, refreshing and absolutely spot on IMHO. So I'm going to see whether I can get some actual written quotes from his interview.

The point I was seeking to find, in this long thread, is whether our politcal process of presidential electioneering in the past 60 years, has resulted in any outstanding results, based on 'WHO' is in the office.

I suspect the process of getting there affects the initial values and personality no matter who or what with which they started out.
