Does anyone know clothing sizes?

I'm about to scream! :help:

I went last night to buy a new pair of slacks. I had bought a pair last week in a 16W, and they fit too loose. However, a regular 16, while they go all the way up and zip, wouldn't be practical because I can't sit down!

Honestly, it didn't occur to me to try a 14W (primarily because they didn't have a 14W in this particular slack).

So there are regular sizes (14, 16, 18, etc), and women's sizes (14W, 16W, 18W, etc.) and there are junior sizes (11, 13, 15, etc.)

For the time being, let's exclude the junior sizes because at 51, most of them are too young for me, no matter how young I look or act!

But what is the difference between a woman's size and a Misses size? Or is Misses the regular size?

I've been shopping in the Plus sizes for so long, I just don't "get it"!!

I think the Womens sizes have more room in the stomach and butt areas.
I bet a 14W would have been perfect for you.

I find the size-thang very mysterious. Sizes don't appear to be all that standard. I have often had a sales clerk tell me that this manufacturer 'fits small' and that that line 'fits large.' This is why I am afraid to order clothes off the internet. I have the same problem with shoes, too. It really is a drag. I would love to go shopping in my pajamas, eh. bleh....:think

I have noticed that I wear everything from a 14 to an 18 and some 20s depending on the manufacturer. Someone said that it would be nice for women's clothes to have the same size types as men's clothes. Men can just get a shirt that fits around the neck. I have to try on all sorts of sizes to find something that fits. I have a Pendleton jacket that is a size 20 and fits just fine. I have a Leslie Fay suit that is a regular 18 and fits perfectly. I also have a bunch of size 16 pants that fit and some 14 jeans that are perfect. I have blouses ranging from XL to 2X and they all fit. It's really weird that women's clothing lines can't come up with a standardized fit. But I notice that Alfred Dunner clothes are very large. I can wear and XL in Alfred Dunner clothes while an 1X in the same line are too small. This is strange. Of course, the selling point is that I can wear smaller size clothing in Alfred Dunner clothes which I like, but it's a lie. I really wear somewhere between a 16 and an 18. I'm thrilled to be down from a 20-22. Someday, I hope to wear real size 16 clothing. That will be a red letter day for me but I need to lose more pounds to do that.

I think Heather is right, that the Womens sizes are cut fuller through the seat area, and with tops the sleeves are usually longer (in a short sleeve top), and there is less of a curve cut into the shirt.
My last jeans were a 14W, and were baggy, so I tried on a Misses 14 relaxed fit, and in about 5 pounds they will be ideal. I have a hard time with the clothing sizes too! Even in the same brand, they don't seem to run true. I enjoy buying smaller sizes, but it is such a PITA, to undress, try something on, have to redress, and try another size. The next time you try that size the whole ordeal reverses!!!
And don't get me started on bra sizes-----aaarrrggghhh!!!
