City: Chicago State: Illinois | Castro steps down as Cuba’s president
While I believe this is one step forward to democracy in Cuba, some day hopefully.... I don't think it will bring changes now...
His brother who will be taking over, and is as evil as Castro, has lived his whole life in his brother's shadow, and the ministers and everyone else in the government will still be the same, so his brother is not going to do anything now that would jeopardize his own interests, now if Castro dies, then maybe he'll venture to try something different....
I don't believe someone as narcissistic as Castro will be absolutely removed from power, I know he will continue to be consulted.
Bottom line is that real change has to come from the military....and Castro is the leader of the gang, and he has a bunch of auxiliary gang members who don't want to see change because they are "comfortable"...
However, anything that can be done to help communism fall in Cuba is a good thing....I strongly support the hard line U.S. policies toward the cuban government. I say keep the U.S. embargo and now stronger than ever. Frankly, Cuba won't be truly free until Castro and the whole gang are all gone, really gone...
Any country leader that respects himself/herself and his/her country will not be engaging in any conversations, agreements or cuddling with communist leaders, we don't need to sit down and talk to them to find out "why they don't like us" because that's pretty darn obvious... and that will never change, communists will never like us, terrorists will never like us, and we should never expect to reach agreements with them, they will never keep their word, it has been and will always be a waste of time and it only gives them confidence to plan their next move against the free world.

Actually his brother is rather sane compared to Castro. Raul is favored by many world governments even the US. In comparison he is fair and open minded where Castro was "NO NO NO" "WONT WONT WONT" like a two year old having a fit. I think that is one reason Castro chose Raul over a few others he favored. He knew Raul would take them into this century politically and economically, but he is to stubborn to show he knows the changes are needed he chose his brother to succeed him, so the job can be done. Castro isn't a stupid man, crazy yes, but stupid no.
I don't think Raul will embrace democracy like many wish he would, but I also think he doesn't embrace communism like Castro did/does. I think he will choose a medium platform to keep with the communist ideologies his brother so loved, but elect some democratic ideas to ease the hardship of his people.

Cuba will continue the same policy until Castro dies, of that I'm sure, democratic ideas? those absolutely don't cross Fidel or Raul's mind and as far as to ease the pain of his people, well.....they have never and will never care for the pain of the people, what makes you think that they will start now?
I can see some conversations starting if a democrat gets in the white house of course... and I can see the embargo lifted as well, and I can see certain things done that will benefit the Cuban government, which may "look" like Raul is being more "open minded" ,but the truth is that Raul, who will also be fully advised at all times by Fidel will only be doing them for their own benefit, not for the people, not because they are trying to change either, they will merely be taken advantage of a weaker foreing policy, Castro has always done that for many, many years...

Elena, as soon as I heard the news about Castro I thought of you. I was amazed at the way the mainstream media was calling him the "President" of Cuba (like he was democratically elected) and waxing on and on about all the wonderful things he did. Sad.
